Ever since that first thanksgiving in 1621, Americans have set aside a day to give thanks for all that we have been blessed with. As this day draws closer, we must remember what those who have gone before us have sacrificed. It is said that the Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts, and yet, through it all, they remained thankful.
Through wars, famine, drought, depressions, recessions, and whatever else the cosmic furies throw at us, we should still be thankful to live in an age where anything is possible. Remember those soldiers, past and present, who cant enjoy being at home on Thanksgiving Day because they are out protecting our great countries. Remember the poor who barely have enough food to survive, but who still carry pride for doing their best. Remember the homeless who walk the street, who keep the hope for a brighter day.
Take a moment in time just to embrace silence to remember the sacrifices others have given so that we may live free as we do today. We truly have much to be thankful for.
No matter what youre going through, be it the loss of a loved one or deep financial struggles, there is still much to be thankful for. It is said, This too shall pass, and as with all things, a deep and meaningful truth lies in that quote.
Thanksgiving may be an American holiday, but that doesnt mean that only Americans can enjoy it. No matter where you live, take a moment to give thanks for those sacrifices others have made, and for the people that have impacted your lives.
So, as Thanksgiving Day draws closer, I would like to send out a special Thank You to all of my HubPage colleagues. Every day, you are enriching the lives of thousands with your witty and informative Hubs. I believe that knowledge and learning are essential to growth and all of the amazing HubPage writers contribute to that every day. I know that my life has been enriched by being a part of this.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the HubPage Admin and to them, a very special Thank You!
