60 years on the Throne

During 2-5 June 2012, thousands of people in the UK toasted the Queen's 60 year reign with a street party for her Diamond Jubilee. You can do the same for future Jubilees, royal weddings, birthdays, and other events, such as the forthcoming birth of the new royal baby!

Here in the UK, street parties are usually held for a Royal or national celebration, such as the Jubilee this year and the Royal wedding last year. You need to apply for permission for your road to be closed off, using an application form to your local council (look on your local council website). Once confirmed, you can set about organising the event with your neighbours. Delegate tasks, purchases and baking to different homes so that everyone can help contribute to the event!

This section has plenty of ideas and recipes, from red white and blue cupcakes, to crown jewel cupcakes!

I made many of the recipes below for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, but these British and royal themed cupcakes can also be enjoyed for other events too, like the sporting events, St George's Day, princess parties and much more!

You can get the kids involved too, even the toddlers! My two-year-old had great fun helping to mix the cake batter, turn the buttercream blue and gloop on the glace icing.
