Scary Halloween Costumes, Movies and T-Shirts

Fun World Costumes Men's Teen Complete 3D Zombie Costume

Scary Halloween

The tradition of dressing up in a costume for Halloween began with the Celts over 2000 years ago, with a festival known as Samhain. This is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture. The Celts would disguise themselves among the dead in animal skins. October 31st for the Celts was considered the boundary between the living and the dead.

The Samhain festival involved slaughtering livestock and throwing their bones into the bonfires. Costumes and masks were worn on the day, now known as Halloween in attempt to rid evil spirits.

Dressing up for Halloween is a fun tradition. Costumes have evolved from the animal skins that the Celts used. Costumes are worn by children and adults, from funny to scary. The traditional themes which have always been popular are witches, ghost, vampires, werewolves and clowns. Many costumes follow movie and TV themes.

Here are my picks of scary Halloween costumes, movies and t-shirts.

Rubie's Costume Zombie Shop Cleaver Through Head

This cannot be! We all know from the many zombie movies that once you shot or stab a zombie in the head they die. If fact it is the only way to kill a zombie. So this costume defies what we have learned about zombies on film. To still be alive with a butcher knife or whatever it is called stuck in his head and still alive to attack and eat the living, well…this is very scary.

Scary of Funny Costumes?

My scariest costume was a witch. Everyone asked where did I buy the hair. I have thick hair, though it was thicker then. It was all tease up and was hell getting the knots out afterwards.

Question of costumes

Do you prefer wearing a scary of funny costume?

Below is what was once called a duel on Squidoo. This is where you would ask a question and the person would answer which of the two fit their answer.

Bill the Butcher - Do you know your butcher's name?

Dick Cheney - Can't get scarier than this!

Scary Cheney T-Shirt by wolfmama

Let's not get into any political attacks here between the conservatives and the liberals. How many people do you know can shoot their friend (Dick Cheney's friend, Harry Whittington), while hunting and have it laughed off like it was an accident.

Any other person would be in jail right now.

You do have to agree that Cheney is a character. Often his expressions are quite scary.

Are you afraid of the black cat?

Be Careful When You Close Your Eyes to Sleep

Do you have favorite scary movie?

(This was once a Squidoo duel before it became part of HubPages. They looked a lot different on Squidoo and both parts of the questions were on the left and right with the answers and not scattered like they are here.)

I remember seeing The Exorcist for the first time. I believe it was the first scary movie I had seen about demonic possession.

Scariest Halloween DVD - Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield

I don't know if this is the scariest movie. I haven't seen this movie. The reviews are mixed. But thought I would stay with the butcher theme. A true story set in the late 1950s. A quiet town in rural Wisconsin is rocked by a series of gory murders and grave robberies committed by a man who has descended into madness.

My husband and I once scared quite a few people with our scarecrow costumes, actually. That's because we sat very still beneath a street lamp, and people really thought we were actual scarecrows, partly because of the shadows the lamp threw on our faces. They'd look away, and we'd move a bit then freeze. They'd look back and wonder if we'd moved. And then we'd look at them and smile, and they'd freak. It was hilarious.

I love watching spooky movies, and it does not bother a bit to watch them alone. There are certain movies I will NOT watch, and I am not huge into gore movies so I can take or leave those. I adore Vamp movies-I guess those would be my favorite.
