What Is True Love?

Updated on June 28, 2012
Source

Do You Pass the Test?

Many people claim to love,

But prove themselves wrong.

Because of their actions-

Sure ain't no love song.

What is this love-

What is this feeling?

Look deep inside,

And discover its meaning.

Saying yes when no is easier,

Saying no because its best,

It's dying to your self,

For in reality its a test.

Sacrificing ones wants,

Meeting someone's needs.

Giving up ones desires,

Hearing their pleas.

Treating everyone equally,

No matter the look nor race.

No one is the top dog,

Get your ego back in place.

Believing in someone,

When no one else will.

Risking mockery and scorn,

To help someone believe.

Keeping on giving,

When there's no more to give.

Because in the end,

You won't have to forgive-

Forgiving yourself for what you could of done,

Those moments you might of missed.

It's really not a mystery,

Or a complicated twist.

Loving is a simple lifestyle,

Of doing what you know.

The first things you were taught,

As you began to grow.

Many people claim to love,

But prove themselves wrong.

Because of their actions-

Sure ain't no love song.

Here is Some More Poetry of Mine

'up' and 'awesome' simply for the last stanza...

Love, I believe, either it is there or it's not.

Josh, I like the line "the first things you were taught as you begin to grow." We don't realize true love until we grow and mature. Very well put. Voted up.

I think of love in many ways, but never have I thought to see it in the format you've presented here.

You definitely have a awesome talent with writing and a unique way of expressing yourself through creative poetry. Nice!!!

....well I have fallen 'deeply' in love with a beautiful lady who lives in another part of the world online and ironically at the Hub although she was banned - lol - you can tell I love bad girls - lol - although in respect she is a good person and didn't deserve such treatment - and I am madly in love with her - so yes that is my testimony and she is my muse so I have written love poetry for the first time in my life about her and to her - she is the other half of my beating heart - so you see what your magnificent poem did to me - it brought all of these emotions out - so thank you for that - my talented young friend - I see a star in the making here, Vincent Moore, check out VM for the really good stuff and the epi-man if you want something a little different in the poe-tree genre - and sending you warm wishes and good energy from lake erie time ontario canada 6:12am

Nice poem Josh! I sense two "loves" here. While certainly, one cannot be in love without loving, one most definitely can love without being in love. I think that's where many relationships go wrong. You may think you're in love because of the awe, wonder and butterflies in the tummy, but when reality sets in, the tables turn and loving is lost.

If we all treat each other with love, as you say in different words, the world will be a better place. We'd laugh more, stop and smell the roses, and if you happen to actually fall in love - well, that's a bonus!

      Nice going, kiddo.
