LIVE Strong or DIE Trying...

Updated on March 22, 2014
Live Strong or Die Trying..
Live Strong or Die Trying..

Do You Survive or Do You Thrive?

Use precious seconds wisely

let laugh lines be your fate

Try not to get bogged down

in the Heaven/Hell debate

Life is but a once around

the only certainty, at least

Glory in the here and now

leave the other stuff to priests

There is a higher purpose

each day to celebrate

Far too many marking time

in a catatonic state

In a single blink of eye

today's your last tomorrow

Bucket list a mile long

blurred by tears of sorrow

So now's the time to kick it up

take a chance and roll the dice

Opportunity knocks but once

so here's my best advice

Throw yourself a party

Travel far and wide

Leap out of that airplane

Ask that girl to be your bride

Dive for sunken treasure

Learn to speak in Japanese

Eat something unpronounceable

Strap on water skis

Sleep beneath the twinkling stars

Then climb the highest peak

Throw off all your clothing

To skinny dip and streak

And when you pause exhausted

Euphoric from the run

A little worse for wear no doubt

Yet regrets are few to none

So ask yourself these questions

while you're healthy and alive

Are you Living Loving Learning?

Do you Survive or do you Thrive?

The end.

Or - the beginning?

The Original...

Are You a Survivor - Or a Thriver?

@Dennis: Good morning my friend - you ARE an early bird - even if your wings are a little arthritic and your flight plan a little fuzzy!

Listen, my friend - you andi BOTH know that YOU LIVE, have lived - and will continue to live - life to the fullest..

you appreciate everything you have - the good and the bad - and you deal with grace and humor!

you're one of my heroes - i hope you are aware!

Life is a highway and I want to drive it all night long, except now I can't see at night. Last night I had a dream I was in a hang glider. Wow, it was such a free and thrilling experience until I caught a wind current and I knew a crash into a building was imminent. I guess my dream kind of sums up life. One minute we are high and the next moment the rug can be pulled out from under us. However, we are in for a 7 day stretch of 70+ degree weather, so things are looking quite nice right about now.

      OMG! how did i miss this one?! L O V E _ I T!

I agree 100% with everything you said, and I adore the way you said it. The way you start off and then go into that reat list at the end. It really brings the message home.

There are more things in my life that I regret NOT doing than things I regret doing. Some of them are as simple as kissing a boy - what a silly thing not to do!

I have to disagree on one thing though. There is NO WAY you are getting me on water skis!!

I am so sorry my lovely Leslie - it's just that I have been suffering from situational depression as of late and with anxiety and stress too.

Thank you for reaching out to me and caring but I live on the poverty level and I have no family in this world so yes some days I surive and some days I thrive and some days I feel barely alive.

Also when you have as many followers and readers as I do - lol - sometimes it can be overwhelming as I love hubpages like you do - but it's good to have a balance in life too - I believe I am doing the best writing of my life here in the last year and I know you are too - you are one of a kind Leslie and a true original and I shall always admire you for that - you always rock my world my fellow Canadian and esteemed colleague that you are - please be well and I will keep in touch and sending you warm wishes and good energy from a stormy looking lake with whitecaps and high winds and now rain - lake erie time ontario 1:35pm

Awesome awesome poem Leslie. The way that you worded this and conveyed your thoughts is very thought provoking. It really makes one think if they're really living their life doing the things they want, or are they just living to be living. You are so talented, and this poem is a clearly expression of that. Voted up, and gave you an awesome rating. Also shared on Facebook, Twitter, and with Hubpage followers. Keep up the great work.

      Leslie,

This is brilliantly written in only the manner in which you can deliver a message, so unique as you are dear one.

Yes, this life is so short and we all should really take at long look at our lives in this manner and just go for the beauty and gift of still being alive. I know I am living right now from one moment to moment with these large blood clots in my lungs, which has opened my eyes to just love all in my life as though it is my last day, which it really could very well be my last day - as we all should ponder this fact.

You are the greatest dear one. Voted Way Up In His Love, Faith Reaper

Imkarn......This is outstanding! You surely have a strong talent in this genre. I loved this poem, Imkarn......and read clearly that you have personally "learned" that which you stress in your words. When this is evident, it truly adds to the power of your writing.

Truth....you write of absolute reality. I say "Ditto," and I love this........Bravo!!!!! .......UP++ and shared!

@Cleaner3: Good morning, Michael...i now know exactly what you like - and what you do NOT!

      lol...

i have a solution, i think: Read my poetry - not my political pieces...

i figure that works for you too? lol

      Have a great day, M!

@Mhatter99: Your comment saddens me, Martin! You are alive, healthy, breathing - look forward, my friend - while there's still time - i beg of you!

While you may have done what others have only dreamed of - why have you decided to finish living?

      (still sad...)

@Pagesvoice: Good morning, my shy, reserved brudder from anudder mudder (and fadder...lol)..

When i wrote this - i certainly wasn't thinking of YOU - lol..

i know very well that you LIVE your life fully, consciously - and gratefully - and i love that about you!

i also love that you've got just as sick a sense of humor as i do - you make me feel almost normal...haha..

Have a great day, D - i'm sure i'll be chatting with ya on fb...xx

@Tobusiness: my dear - i don't think you need to concern yourself too much - you are certainly not suffering from a fear of life or living - good for YOU! And..thank god you're no naomi campbell - she may be beautiful on the outside, but....you know the rest!

Appreciate you taking the time to drop in and visit, my friend!

@Xstatic: I've had 2 near death experiences, X...it does one of 2 things i think - it either makes you appreciate every single moment of life - the good, bad, or ugly - or it turns you into a miserable, bitter, angry human being..

As far as i'm concerned - the latter is too much like work..

      lol..

Thanks for your support, my friend! Sorry for the delay in response...

Life all depends on how much energy you put into it; this poem reflects that theme well and really makes me long to be more adventurous. Great poem, nicely done.

I've always tried to escape the idea of sitting on a porch with my great grandchildren saying, "I wished I'd have done that when I was younger." I can say I've sky dived, skin dived, took a high performance driving course, crossed the Atlantic, hitchhiked in Europe, worked with venomous reptiles, and much more. I have little to nothing to show for it all, but the memories will forever be mine. But damn it, I still want to bungee jump! Great hub, Leslie!

Live like your poem suggests. The memories of my past is all I have left. I have lived people's dreams.

Life is a highway and I want to drive it all night long. As always voted up and across. Remember to do the "Naked Polka" too. This was a great read and even apolitical. You do realize that you are the only person here who writes poetry that I actually read and it is due to the fact we are usually on the same page (no pun intended) regarding our thoughts.

I was surprised to see how many categories I could place a check mark next to, considering how reserved and shy I am. One year I received my certification in scuba diving when I went for a dive during a blinding snowstorm in a spring fed lake in Central New York State. After exiting the frigid waters and attempting to change out of my wet suit I was reminded of Geoge Costanza on Seinfeld when he exclaimed, "It's shrinkage!"

ImKarn, A very inspiring poem, there are times when I feel I'm merely surviving, but then I look back... I've lived, loved traveled took time off to live and work in foreign land, chose a career that keeps me focus on what is real but I also took time to do other fun things.

I can scuba dive, ride a horse, ski a little, I flirted with the world of fashion although I'm no Naomi Campbell, couldn't see the point of jumping out of a perfectly good air plane but I'm married to an ex-para. So I suppose, there are times when we thrive and times when we're simply treading water as we wait for the next wave.

Excellent and well done. I couldn't agree more. Reminded me of thoughts I've had of late. Life truly is short. I don't want to just survive or settle. I want to thrive and feel alive....with someone that means the world to me. To share it all...and so much more. And I've finally found that person. The one who makes me smile, laugh, feel good about myself, makes me proud to have her on my arm as well as in my heart, to know I am in hers as well, my soul mate, my love, my....everything! Thanks for reminding me how lucky and blessed I truly am to have found her. I'm looking forward to the best part of my life....the part that I share with her. Life is finally...truly wonderful.
