How I Became a Plush Bunny

Hello. My name is Richard. I used to be a scared, little bunny and now I am a proud and loved plush toy. This is a story about how and why I became a plush bunny.

To start off, let me just say one thing – I have never been so happy in all my life! My kid, or to be more precise the child whose toy I am, is a wonderful, little girl named Sarah, and she loves me very much. She takes me everywhere with her – we go outside to play, we sometimes go to the zoo, we often stay at home and watch TV… Once, we even went ice skating and had a great time – me, Sarah and her two friends with their plush bunnies.

Now we come to the part where I should tell you how the whole thing happened and how I decided to become a plush toy. Well, it all happened when my mother told me a story about rabbits - I was maybe four years old. She sat me down and told me THE story about hunting. I learned that we rabbits are hunted throughout the world and we are taught to be afraid of hunters. Actually, we are taught to be afraid of everything and anything. This is why rabbits are known for being cute but cowards. Now, I was told to stay away from the forest and the nearby village, and that I would be fine if I followed these rules. However, nobody told me that I would be in danger even if I followed the rules. This became clear to me only when I heard what happened to my cousin Grant.

My cousin Grant was a particularly fast rabbit - some would say that he even was a candidate for being the fastest in the entire county. However, his only flaw was his lack of courage. This is something none of the rabbits in the world have – courage… We are fast, we are cute, we are witty, we are definitely pretty, but we are always scared of something. This is exactly what killed my cousin Grant.

My cousin Grant was known for not listening to his parents and for going to the forest and to the nearby village whenever he had a chance. One time while he was running through the forest, he ran into a group of hunters coming from the village. They all had their weapons and they all wanted to go home with a nice rabbit in their backpack, and Grant seemed like a great choice. As soon as they noticed Grant coming towards them, they all started shooting at him. Naturally, Grant died that day. The most interesting thing about this story is the fact that Grant wasn’t hit at all, but he died from fear. His heart stopped working when he heard the noise coming from the hunters’ weapons.

As soon as I heard this story, I went and signed up for the plush toy career. Until that moment I didn’t know what I would be when I grew up, and thanks to this story I decided to become a plush toy and stop being afraid of everything around me. I got this idea from my cousin Claudia, as she was the first one in our family to become a plush toy. She is now with a girl named Anna, and she is very happy.

Now we go back to me and to what I have learned since the day I have become a plush bunny. People who own plush toys love them very much, especially if these plush toys are bunnies. I noticed that people feel better about themselves whenever they protect somebody, and we, plush bunnies, always look scared and in need of someone to protect us. Therefore, people protect us, we no longer feel scared and afraid of anything, and they feel better and think higher of themselves because of this – a win-win situation, isn’t it?
