Kindness - The 13th Good Word in the "Good Words" Project

Updated on November 16, 2016

The "Good Words Project"

Jo Goldsmith Jo "Grace" Goldsmith started the "Good Words Project" to help people think and practice using the words she gives us to promote 'understanding' and 'kindness' the 12th and 13th words.

When I made the pledge to Grace to write a poem for every 'good' word she gave us each week, I had no idea how challenging it would be or how rewarding.

I am grateful to Grace for giving us these good words to practice and living by.

What is Kindness?

It is sympathetic words

A simple pat on the hand

To let someone know you understand

The many different ways

Of Kindness you can show

They are the seed of thoughtfulness

That you sow

Practice Kindness

This is the easiest word of all

It is to catch or steady someone

So they don't fall

Kindness is a gentle touch

When just a smile can mean so much

It will show you really care

When the touch says you are there

Kindness is a night light in the dark

To wash away bad dreams before they start

And to light the way

Into a little one's heart

Kindness is simply to understand

With compassion, for our fellow man

And to be there, when they need a helping hand

And let them know they are not alone in this lonely world

The Good Words Project.

Will you use and practice the good words?

See results

Kindness is 'Magic'

Au fait, I know, and the older we get the faster the time goes and speaking of time I have to go out and cut the grass. Thank you for the comments and compliments.

Can't believe it's been 2 years since I was here! And I still agree that every word you wrote is true and relevant. Everyone is fighting their own battles, no one is without challenge, at least not for long if at all. There are many ways a person can help someone going through tough times and being kind is one of them. One needn't always contribute money. Sometimes what is needed is simply kindness, friendship, and being there. Sharing . .

Blessings and hugs to you dear friend. Hope you are taking it easy today and feeling good.

It's good to be kind, we need to help others so that they don't feel isolated or rejected in this lonely world. Thanks for sharing.

That was beautiful Shyron, kindness is magic. I have tried to do what I can for others. My neighbor has done a couple of odd jobs around my yard and even left some cookies one Christmas but did not ask for anything. I am grateful. I voted this up+++ and pinned it.

This is such a beautiful series Shyron and you do justice to each word. Being kind can take such little effort. Often it is our demeanor or attitude that can turn an everyday action into one of kindness. Up votes and again, happy to share.

What a great project! For several years now my New Year's Resolution has been to say only positive things. As my hubber friends could testify, I don't always succeed. Usually on Jan. 1 I walk around literally with a hand over my mouth to keep myself from breaking my resolution on Day 1. But it's worth trying and projects like this only help. Sharing.

Beautifully written and great imagery ... you really hit the nail on the head with this one. The bit about bad dreams was very sweet and a great example of kindness.

Devika, thank you for the compliment and the comment. Kindness is all around you, does no one touch your heart with a smile? Maybe everyone you see is feeling the same way you feel. So I just say, 'If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours.'

Bill, you are welcome. I don't think of kindness as a lost art. In Church, I was a little unsteady and a young woman next to me took my arm to steady me, that is an act of kindness. I think if we all practice kindness and little one see they will practice kindness also.

Thank you Bill for your comments. I really appreciate you.

Oh my, the video brought tears. If only everyone would heed your words in your beautiful poem, the world would be a wonderful place. Thank you Shyron for reminding us to be kind to others. God is watching and i know he smiles when he sees an act of kindness shown so well in the video.

A wonderful thought into this word ''kindness.'' I have lost touch with such kind of people so much has changed over the years that kindness had some how got lost along the way. Another one of your greater hubs.

Beautiful words to live by dear Shyron. We can all make that choice to choose our words to either build up or tear down. I believe that even the smallest act of kindness can change another one's day or life even. Love your artwork too.

Up and more, pinning and tweeting

I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead.

      God bless you,

Every word is so true. You have such a beautiful collection of poems now. You should turn them into a little book. Your artwork looks so good too! Looks just like a page out of a glossy book. I hope people are looking at that too and figuring out that you are doing it yourself and then recognize how very creative and artistic and talented you are!

In today's world, what is kindness? It is a lost art!

Beautiful words Shyron, and a great reminder as I start my day. Thank you!
