Poem: Flower Power
Each flower is a soul oopening out to nature ~ Gerard De Nerval
I have to agree with Emma Goldman when she says, “I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck…” Really? Really! I think Movie Master would agree with me on that. After all, flowers have some serious kick-ass powers—a quality that is not immediately definable yet so evident, it’s hard to disapprove. Flowers are required attendees at auspicious occasions—wedding, prom, birthday, anniversary or any number of celebrations. If you’re a man (and I hope you’re reading this), you can score big when you tote some lovely flowers to your wife or girlfriend/or a girl you fancy. Your faults will pale in the light of flower power and you may have increased your appeal by notches. Trust me on that one. Need a prom date?—your prospect will be brighter if you bring some flowers. Need to cheer up someone?—flowers will do the job singlehandedly—no words required. Expecting guests and need to dress up your house? --flowers will do nicely and they don’t need much fussing over. Flowers are God’s way of making sure there’s something to be happy about—no matter what.
This hub, therefore, is all about flowers. I’ll be gushing over them and I may sound a little sappy. Indulge me a little and allow me to tout the power of flowers.
Flowers, Inspired
You spread a smile on my face
Put a shine in my eyes
Add a lithe to my walk
Light a joy in my heart
Change the course of my mood
Glaze a glow on my whole outlook.
You strap wings on my dreams
And catapult it to the highest beam.
You, the grace of creation
Transcient beauty, ethereally eternal,
Inspiration magnified
A simple flower bobbing in the wind..
Just a wide-eyed flower,
But what flower power.
Haiku tries to paint a simple image in your mind. It captures the essence of a single picture or event in three lines with 17 syllabus. These group of flower haikus celebrate the beauty of flowers and the magic they wield over us.
A Single Rose
A little rose bud
on a slender stalk of thorns
spikes and beauty meet.
Star-struck
Fuzzy little stars
Nestled against mottled pink
No fault, just beauty
Cheer
Bold orange blush unfolds
Autumn shades and summer joys
Cheer on dreary days.
Glow
Drenched in yellow
Petals soft with heaven’s glow
Unbridled joy flow.
Chiffon
The fire within
The torch of amber showers
Shades of gold at play.
Purple Blush
Petals open and fresh
Open to dew and soft rain
Wash away life's pain.
Little Dainties
White pinwheels on fence
Twirling in the summer breeze
Defying toasty heat.
As noted, fllowers are quite indispensible for any celebratory occasion. You will never find a bride walking down the aisle without a bouquet of flowers (unless she's a runaway bride...even then, some flowers may make it official). Even wedding parlors in Las Vegas offer artificial flowers. Here is a silly poem about a guy, a ring, some nervous nerves and maybe...some flowers?
With these flowers I do thee wed.
Will You Marry Me?
I may not have the looks of Brad Pitt
the swagger of Mick Jagger
the smart of Steve Jobs
the brilliance of Terrence Tao (IQ of 230)
the internet savvy of Mark Zuckerberg
the wealth of Warren Buffet
the coolness of Shaun White
or the syrupy sweetness of Justin Bieber
On the contrary…
I’ve become quite the fool,
Putting you on the pedestal stool.
In your presence, I tend to stutter
My heart starts to flutter
I’m an emotional mess,
I’ve to confess.
I’ve lost all reasoning,
Floating...
On love’s cloud
Woozy with feverish bouts.
If you think I’m crazy,
Cheesy…
I’ve to admit it’s true
Wrap in love’s blues.
So…
Even though I don’t have the right combination
The ideal of perfection.
I’m falling madly for you
Can’t you see?
Now, will you marry me?
P.S. I love you so fine, I even make this poem rhyme.
