Random Thoughts - Things I think about while you're talking to me.

You always hear about being a better listener. How to be a better listener. It helps you communicate with, and understand the other person. Being a newlywed I know this is crucial in my relationship with my wife. At work, I need to listen to the customer's needs and expectations. With my friends, well, it's probably better that I don't listen to most of my friends.

On the flip side, you can always tell when someone isn't listening to you, uhuh, yeah, uhuh...So as I set out to become a better listener, I will have to stop thinking about random stuff while people are talking to me. What random stuff you ask? Here's a sample list of things that go in and out of my head while we're having a "conversation".

I wonder if the Mars Rovers are still roving? Spirit and....I can't think of the other one's name. I remember one got stuck and then could only go in reverse. They were only supposed to last a few years...crap what's the other one's name?

Do they still make rotary phones? And if so, why? I'm sure some people may still use them, but I wonder if they're still being made. It would be tough to text on a rotary phone...

I hate when people don't say thank you after you hold the door for them I'm being polite, how hard is it to say thanks? At least smile or something...

Why does my cell phone continuously beep to notify me that the battery is low? Now is the time to conserve, conserve!

When will the current mo-hawk trend end? There was Mr T, Bryan Bosworth, then nothing for 20 years. Came back strong a few years ago and shows no sign of fading.

How do women wear white pants? Do they avoid ketchup, mustard, chocolate, dirt, juice, wine, snow cones, magic markers, blood, motor oil, and all types of sauces?

Do atheists go to T.G.I.Fridays? I wonder if there's been a protest?

I really wish I had bought Netflix stock a few years back I'd be selling now but wow, that would have been a nice profit..

I have all of my wisdom teeth. I wonder if this would help me win a competitive eating contest?

Why don't the words tomb, bomb, and comb rhyme? They're spelled the same, shouldn't they sound the same? English must be near impossible to learn...

I need to check my air filters at home It's been quite a while, all of that dog hair just sitting in there clogging the vent... oh man...I should go check right now!

Man this guy really needs to floss more often.. Look away, now back, now away, now back, wait he asked me something..."Uh huh"

I should get a drum set Ive always wanted to learn how to play the drums. I'm not getting any younger. Anne would never go for that..

Why don't I like fishing? Everyone likes fishing, why not me. I like nature, it's so tranquil...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

When should I use a semicolon? I should know this...

How come I never have chap stick when I need it? I guess if I had it I wouldn't need it..

What did I do before Google?I think I looked things up in Wik --er the encyclopedia. Or I read a book, with pages.

I wonder how much false information I've read on Wikipedia? I could be walking around with a head full of misquotes...

Will they still make bookshelves? With Ipads and Kindles and all

Is falling satellite debris covered by homeowners insurance? Chances are slim that I'd be hit, but chances are slim that I'd hit the lottery and I fully expect to win that.

Being a professional mover would suck I hate moving day and it would be moving day everyday.

Are Zebras horses? Can you ride them?

I really hope that doesn't stink

These are just a few things I may be mulling over in my head while talking to someone. My goal is to maintain eye contact, listen to the other person and respond accordingly. As an adult I should be able to have adult conversations. I just need to focus and more importantly, listen. I really need to- OPPORTUNITY!! That's the other rover!!! Where was I? I really need to work on this...
