Sleepy Head

My eyes are getting sleepy

I want to go to bed

But right now

I am regretting what I said

I take a walk downstairs

Wondering what to do

I need to stay awake

So I grab a Mountain Dew

***

The caffeine fills my body

I hope it kicks in fast

Before the dream man gets me

And drops me on my ass

***

Tomorrow will be early

The day will start real soon

With as tired as I am

I wish I could sleep till noon

***

But that just won’t happen

I have three kids to attend too

Staying up this late

I truly am the fool

But I really have no choice

I have to stay up this late

If I fall asleep right now

I will forget to pick up my mate

Tonight he works a late shift

He won’t be done till one

Unfortunately my body is tired

You could say I am over done

We have one car

And tonight I needed it

If not for that, I would be asleep

And no longer throwing this fit

***

So as I struggle

Trying not to fall asleep

I have 30 minutes left

But I am getting weak

***

So here I sit

Throwing together this here poem

Biding past the time

Until I need to leave home

***

You see I made a promise

That I have no choice but to keep

I must pick my husband up

And forgo my need to sleep!
