Sure of Something

Updated on July 15, 2012

It's never hurt so bad

To be as sure of something

As I was tonight

When I said I was moving on

And would not return

I would think that finally being free

From the tortures of the past

Would feel so much better

Than it does

Sometimes I think we become

More attached to certain kinds of pain

Than we do to happiness

It doesn't make sense

That you can be 100% sure

You made the right decision

And yet still feel

So terrible inside

That was so so beautiful and relatable. It's harder to get over the clingy habit of staying in pain. Probably we do it in fear of loss of the purpose, the purpose of being in pain.

Seems you've been over the rollercoaster without throwing up! I regained my sealegs again but the ground still felt a bit wobbly for a while as I went through a procession of girlfriends in the '70's! Mind you, that's not to say it CAN'T happen again.

I think a part of us does enjoy being in chaos, because we at least feel something. Once you decide to move on, numbness follows and we dont feel so alive.

What you've written is really true, this how I felt about my first husband. It took me three years to realize this, then I walked out and didn't return.

Voted up useful and interesting, Joyce.

Jim-very true that sometimes we don't even realize how bad something sucked until after we've moved on. thanks for commenting!

Vellur and fjpteach- Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated!

pennyofheaven-I agree that we are creatures of habit and even giving up habits that are very destructive to us can be difficult! Thanks for commenting:)

Perhaps it is more because we are creatures of habit and do not always embrace change even though our heart tells us we are doing the right thing. We do eventually adjust to the change. Excellent poem.

Very strong. Very sad, and very beautiful. Something great has happened to me that I never thought would. I had got used to the pain and just ignored it. Didn't realize how bad something sucked untill something good came along. I'm being very vague, I realize. lol
