The World of Undiscovered Poets: Wayne Barrett

Updated on June 24, 2013

One of the most influential inspirations for poetry comes from a poet's life. Each moment we experience, each memory we store in our heads is packed with meaning and significance, which can be translated into words of poetry. Think back to some of your own experiences in life. Did you travel abroad? Did you meet a person you loved so much that you would follow her to the ends of the Earth? The undiscovered poet I would like to introduce you to today has done this and more. He has an incredible ability to translate his own life experiences into not only poetry, but art and music too. World, please meet Wayne Barrett.

Wayne's inspiration comes from his life. From childhood, he had the natural ability to view things much differently than other people. He has also had the opportunity to travel abroad and see much of the world. This unique perspective is quite apparent in Brave Stallion, one of Wayne's original poetic/artistic creations.

Wayne Barrett's artistic influences come from the old masters of art, music, and poetry. He strives to create in much the same style as the artists of old did. Some of his favorite poets of old are Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Edgar Allen Poe. Wayne also has some more modern influences including Stan Rice, whose poetry showed Wayne he didn't have to adhere to a strict form. Below is an example of Wayne's free form poetry:

My Perspective

In the still quiet

You can hear my heartbeat

From the far side of the room

The titanium clicking

Echoing through my wired chest

My internal clock ticking

Time tapping me on the shoulder

Reminding me that tomorrow

Is not the day to enjoy.

My Perspective

Is Awakened

Like the notes of music

Making love to silence

Born from my lover

Seducing her piano

Fingering the ivories

Sending treble clef floating

To settle in my glass

So I drink my wine

In the key of C.

My Perspective

Is Heightened

Like my guitar string

Is tightened

And I strum while I sing

A little ditty lapping

Off the tip of my tongue

As my lover gets dancy

And she swirls in close

So the words from my song

Can tickle her fancy.

My Perspective

Is Endeared

To the beat of my heart

To the beat of my music

To enjoy this day

To swing and sway

To dance the night away

To love my love

My love I love

I love my life

I love because…

My Perspective

Has Changed

Wayne Barrett's message to the world is to lighten up. The world is filled with people who have their own unique thoughts and ideas. We may not always understand these thoughts and ideas, but if we take the time to get to know these people we might find them to be a breath of fresh air. Wayne invites anyone who doesn't understand his work to sit down and have a drink with him. He will crack a few bad jokes and show you, he's not a bad guy at all. Wayne's advice to any would be poets out there is to express themselves. Don't let a lack of proper technique keep you from leaving your mark on the world. Wayne Barrett has definitely left his mark on me and I hope he will do the same for you.

Up, Useful, and Interesting. Thanks for this tribute and introduction. I am sharing it with followers. I just recently started reading Wayne's poetry hubs, and I've liked and admired those I've read. They are accessible enough for me to "get" them at least to some extent and profound enough to challenge and stretch my mind and imagination.

I agree totally with the accolades given to this brilliant and talented poet. Wayne and I have become brothers from a different mother:-) We share some similar background stories. I am honored to call him friend and he speaks my language, he pulls much from his very deep well and combines it with his raw emotions, sometimes a bitter pill, however we both know where we dwell. I am thankful to have met him here at the hubs and elsewhere on my journeys, he is one hell of a poet. Great tribute to a great poet and writer. Tweeted and shared.

Wonderful write here! You have stated it so well as to the poet's writings . . . exactly, from one's life's experiences! Thank you!

I discovered Wayne, as Cat did, with his 'Brave Stallion' and I was totally captivated at his sheer all around artistic talent.

      Superb poem.

      Voted up ++++ and sharing

This is awesome! How wonderful of you to do this tribute to Wayne and though he's not undiscovered in my eyes, too many in the world have not been blessed by his undeniable, unmatchable, artistic talents. I love Wayne! I've been following ever since I ran into the first hub of his I read and he has never disappointed! His 'Brave Stallion' blew me away, not just the poetry as usual, but his artwork, which I had previously been unaware of. Aside from his artistic abilities... he has a beautiful soul, which he doesn't hide well :D ... and you didn't fail to highlight that.

I'm sharing this... I'm mad more people haven't been here... we'll fix this!

      The world must see!

      Up, awesome and beautiful!
