The World of Undiscovered Poets: Wayne Barrett

One of the most influential inspirations for poetry comes from a poet's life. Each moment we experience, each memory we store in our heads is packed with meaning and significance, which can be translated into words of poetry. Think back to some of your own experiences in life. Did you travel abroad? Did you meet a person you loved so much that you would follow her to the ends of the Earth? The undiscovered poet I would like to introduce you to today has done this and more. He has an incredible ability to translate his own life experiences into not only poetry, but art and music too. World, please meet Wayne Barrett.

Wayne's inspiration comes from his life. From childhood, he had the natural ability to view things much differently than other people. He has also had the opportunity to travel abroad and see much of the world. This unique perspective is quite apparent in Brave Stallion, one of Wayne's original poetic/artistic creations.

Wayne Barrett's artistic influences come from the old masters of art, music, and poetry. He strives to create in much the same style as the artists of old did. Some of his favorite poets of old are Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Edgar Allen Poe. Wayne also has some more modern influences including Stan Rice, whose poetry showed Wayne he didn't have to adhere to a strict form. Below is an example of Wayne's free form poetry:

From the far side of the room

The titanium clicking

Echoing through my wired chest

My internal clock ticking

Time tapping me on the shoulder

Reminding me that tomorrow

Has Changed

Wayne Barrett's message to the world is to lighten up. The world is filled with people who have their own unique thoughts and ideas. We may not always understand these thoughts and ideas, but if we take the time to get to know these people we might find them to be a breath of fresh air. Wayne invites anyone who doesn't understand his work to sit down and have a drink with him. He will crack a few bad jokes and show you, he's not a bad guy at all. Wayne's advice to any would be poets out there is to express themselves. Don't let a lack of proper technique keep you from leaving your mark on the world. Wayne Barrett has definitely left his mark on me and I hope he will do the same for you.
