To My Surprise - Lyrical Poetry By Cathy Nerujen

Updated on January 11, 2017

About this love poem...

This lyrical poetry is inspired by listening to the music and romantic songs of Frank Sinatra. It's about love so deep and so profound - the words feel as though they were dipped in wine... like a melody that has haunted me for ever. I hope music lovers enjoy it as much as poetry lovers do. Dedicated to the one I love...

To My Surprise

My surprise
came -
it was a hurricane -

down my spine
you slid -
those eyes -
could launch a hundred ships -
like creeping ninja spies -
a thousand finger tips -

you see -
my love -
tonight I'll make you mine -
sweet lovers lips entwine -
our love's forever more -
we dance upon the shore -
like windmills in the wind -
like wings of butterflies -
two twinkling candle lights -

Source

your eyes -
oh baby your
sweet brown eyes -
what a sweet surprise -

this thing that we're
becoming -
like champagne bubbles
bubbling -

like spices in my mouth -
two lovebirds flying south -

where we can live -
as one -

Oh I am so undone ...

to my surprise -

Source

You took me here tonight -
this tender golden light -
this thing I want so much -
these feelings when we touch -
this sense of being around you -
and now I've found you -

leave nothing here to chance -
let me hold you as we dance -
cheek to cheek -
skin to skin -
in open arms -
so finger thrilling ...
down my spine
you slide -
my eyes are open wide -

to my surprise -

To My Surprise - poem dedicated to Fehl Dungo
To My Surprise - poem dedicated to Fehl Dungo | Source

our love is forever more -
now we dance upon the shore -
like windmills in the wind -
like wings of butterflies -
two twinkling candle lights -
oh wings of butterflies -

two hearts that beat as one -

oh Fehl, I'm so undone -

but then it's

no surprise -

this way I'm feeling -

about you.

Dedicated with love and so many hugs for Fehl Dungo. As always, as ever, she inspires my words.

Nice song. Your meter is quite tight. A lot of (musical) possibilities here. Thank you for this.

I love this. Its so fun and fast moving and playful and romance is like the air - like a skip through the most beautiful park in all the lands the sky twinkling in fairy tales and happy endings. Thanks so much for sharing. Cheers Cathy.

Hi Mhatter99, thank you for the comment. I must admit I never overtly tried writing a poem that started out as a song almost as much as a love poem. Some of my other poems in my hubs have better meter than even this.

But the idea and inspiration behind this is a very special person in my life, so it was always going to be a poem eventually. It's really for her, and yes, the possibilities are in there, musically... just as they are romantically...

Hi Darrylmdavis, it was a sweet inspiration and I enjoyed creating it. Every word is from the heart...

Hi Frankie: it is always wonderful to find you reading my poems and lending your ear to my words. It's meant to be playful and upbeat and intimate, yes... it's how I feel... and it's love...

Thank you for the nice comments. Have a sweet day. :)

Hi Ruby, like your hub name, my poems are "always exploring" that amazing subject of love. I wonder will I ever write about something else? I probably won't. LOL.

Spine tingling... wow. I love it when my words have these affects on people.

Hi Gypsy Rose Lee, thank you for the comments. I am a hopeless romantic... but getting more hopeful and less hopeless, I think.

Hi Fehl my honeybunny, yes this one is for you. As always. I wrote it from the heart as I always do. And listening to \Frank Sinatra was part of how this one. And I was trying some new things and some different approaches to love a poem and lyrical poetry. Sinatra got me in the mood, I guess. Hehehe. Thank you for saying this. :)

I always melt when you say things like this. I love writing poems for you that are nice and sexy and also romantic, Fehl. I love you so much, baby. Mwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah :)

Nothing ever surprises me about you Cathy and Fehl as you have both inspired the greatest love story of all time and it's in these beautiful words I can see and read both of your hearts beating at the same time.

A little homework assignment involving Frank Sinatra with my favorite ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov on you tube - check out Mikhail's dance tribute to the music of Sinatra - it is dance nirvana with the fusion of music and choreography.

Sending you my sincere warmest wishes from Colin and Little Miss Tiffy and Mister Gabriel at lake erie time ontario canada 3:15pm and I sent you a nice card Miss C for you and Fehl to share on your FB wall

Dear Cathy - these words once again 'thrill me and kill me' and they sound and read as fresh as the first time they 'seduced' me -wish I could write with such free and open lustful abandon and your pen doesen't seem to be writing the words as much as your incredibly beautiful heart and yes they can't teach this at writing school - it just happens - and you my friend - are a happening !!!!

Sending love and hugs to you and your sweetie from Colin and his cats after just arriving home and listening to reggae loud , lol , at lake erie time canada 1:33am

I love you so much, Fehl. ^_^

      Hi Colin :)

You already write with such free and wild uninhibited abandon already. LOL :) You mean there is a more free and more lustful abandon that can be reached through writing of sensual romantic poetry? Tell me quickly where it is, please? (Cathy smiles like a drunken fool and grabs her notepad...)

Hehehe. Me trying to seduce you, Colin. Surely not. ;)

Wasn't this a scene from "The Graduate"? LOL.

Oh you are such a flatterer. And it's working. LOL.

You always make me smile and you are a big fan of my honest heartfelt poems, Mister Epi. I could never not write from the heart. That would not be poetry to me.

Um, teaching it at school... Hopefully poetry is flourishing in schools everywhere and letting people explore their emotions in ways that other writing does not quite allow so much, so freely... Poetry is thriving in the UK and lots of other places, like Canada the USA and Asia, including a sweet place in the Philippines I want to visit so much... with a beautiful lady.

Wow, lots of love from me... and from us, and we love reggae so much. It can be loud and I love the soulful, deep and ambient side to this music. The rhythms can be so hypnotizing. Have a sweet day at lake Erie my wonderful friend. :)

      Cathy,

I read your poem in a morning when

I can see flowers blooming in my garden through my window,

      I can hear birds twittering,

I can feel warm sunlight on my skin.

The feeling of love and longing is ethereal.

Thank you Jo. I have always been a distant fan but maybe I liked him more than I would admit. But some of his songs are just so wonderful. When I heard some of the tunes that he sang in his lifetime, I just became inspired to pen a poem in the manner of a song that Sinatra might possibly sing some day. I know the great man has passed on now, but his music does inspire.

And there is a very amazing person in my life who inspired this poem. Thank you Jo for the comments and the vote up. Have a sweet day.
