What book did you not want to read at first, but loved it when you were finished?

Sometimes teachers force us to read books we have absolutely no interest in, but by the end of the book you have found some gem of wisdom that made the book worthwhile and in the end you were glad you were forced to read it.

I did want to read the book "Why would you not want to go to church" because I thought that this would be some text fundamentalist. Entretranto in the end I thought "Wow, So many things I learned here."
I really recommend it to anyone who has any religion or not!

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I put of reading it for a year and when I finally did get round to reading it, I acutally enjoyed it.

Wuthering Heights.  I tried to read it as a teen and couldn't get through it.  When I took a class in college, the professor made us read it.  I loved it!  I think it was the perspective of a few years and two years of being a literature major that gave me a different view of it.

I still have never loved Scarlet Letter.  I read it in HS, college and taught it to high school students.  Still don't like it.  It's just not my style.

George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones.  I haven't read fiction in a very long time so I was leery of reading it.  I'm very glad that I did though, I'm hooked through the nose and working my way through book four.
