An article's title plays a very important role especially if it is a successful title, that will rank well in search engines. So I would think the title is very important, but you also need to have in-depth, high quality content as well, that is search-friendly, so you need both to attract a reader.

Indeed true. Good titles are able to attract readers and thereby gives a boost to the traffic.

To attract the reader you need a good title. To keep the reader and make them stay you need good content. They are both important and neither is more important than the other.

A good title always lures me into reading an article's content. I stop midway though when the content failed to meet my reading need. So I think both are equally important. As writers, we don't want dissatisfied or disappointed readers. As readers, we just wanted quality materials. An article has to have both a catchy/good title and a quality content.

I too agree that a good catchy title attracts the eye of the readers.

Both are equally important and there are a number of other important factors to remember especially when writing online. Apart from faultless grammar  you'll need to know your facts and structure articles so the online reader doesn't get bored. This means using concise sentences and paragraphs to get your point across. Appropriate photos to illustrate are also a must.

I was recently in the audience at a literary festival interview of three published authors. One of them said that the importance of book cover design is underestimated - some supermarket chains refuse to stock books if they don't like the cover. Personally, I am attracted by the reputation of a writer - I seek out writers who have received good reviews. I read the synopsis of the book to decide if the story line appeals to me.

I too read the synopsis of a book and I believe the synopsis is what attracts a reader towards the book. True that.
