    When I self-published my book, I contacted a local university (art department) or art institute. I spoke with one of the teachers to recommend me a good student. I contracted the student to do the illustrations for my story. I signed with a company that I found in the internet (My book is in amazon.com) I paid for the editing of the story, I submitted the drawings and I selected the formart of my book. If you want to  to write and illustrate, just do so and find a professsional editor. Remember, there are rules as to how to write for all type of genre.You have to be specific with the target population. You can also find in the web, agencies that can present the manuscript for you, once is professionally edited.
