What is the best way for a writer to create and promote their personal brand?
Create a blog on your writing and then invite people to write on your blog. Yes! Involve people to come to your blog through forums, articles and so on. Promote your blog by contacting relevant writers through Twitter and ask them to review your blog and maybe ask them to write on your blog. Trying to exchange links with other writers and bloggers and ask them to promote your writing in their blogs while they promote their stuff on yours. Create a Facebook page and finally send your work for reviews to relevant magazines, newspapers and editors.
I think that name and picture are two little things that can be important in the long run. You want a memorable name and a recognizable avatar so that people know who you are no matter where they happen to see you on the web. I also think that back linking is important. For example, if you wrote about cooking recipes, try to find websites that allow user-submitted articles on that subject, then post yours. It increases traffic and exposure.

I've been exploring this quite a bit myself. What are the best ways that a writer can create and promote their personal brands? Do you conduct readings, promote yourself through social media channels, create a specific body of work, or other methods?
