What makes the characteristics of a successful Author.
As an Author I see many writers struggling to become successful, in your experience what do you think a writer needs to have as far as characteristic to become successful.
Persistence, patience, good writing skills, creative mind, and good research skills. Of course it depends on your definition of success, but to me a successful writer is finishing a project and being read.
As with all the arts, it helps for the artist him/herself to have some sort of personal draw that makes other people interested in him/her. For instance, for J K Rowling, it's how she wrote the first Harry Potter book while being a single mother on benefits (equivalent to welfare for us in the US). Having something like that helps set one artist apart from the rest of the pack. Once you've been noticed, you battle's already half won.
