    When writing a "Children's Book"

When writing a "Children's Book" What are the top Lessons or Morals taught that children are in need of?

They should be learning respect of others, tolerance of differences and that bullying is a horrible thing.  They should learn that telling the truth is better than hiding the truth.  They should learn to trust the right people to steer them in the right direction.  They should learn to not be followers, especially when the person(s) they are following are doing something wrong or hurting someone else.  Finally, they should learn to enjoy being children while they can and not rush to grow up and do grown up things.

In addition to what bizzymom said, I would also include teaching them about sharing and having compassion for others. They should be taught to take responsibility for their actions, and appreciate their parents and not take them for granted. In fact, to not take anything they have for granted, like having a roof over their head, clothes, food, etc. They should be taught not to be lazy and that hard work pays off, in the end. They should be taught that T.V., video games, Facebook, cell phones, etc are not the end all be all. They should be encouraged to foster their own creativity, instead of solely depending on other people or things to entertain them.

This has already been mentioned but I would like to emphasize the fact that children should be made to understand that they should never lie even if by saying the truth they are likely to get into trouble. This kind of openness will help them to face several adversities boldly in life later on.

Treating everyone on par in spite of their skin color, ethnicity, religion or religious beliefs is yet another thing of importance that they should be taught.

    Excellent question. Thank you.
