What does a writing coach do?
Have you ever worked with a professional writing coach? If so, what did the coach do?
I have been a writing coach to many- both friends and students. A writing coach will basically help you to improve your writing skills and abilities.. In order to do so, the coach will read examples of your written works. They will edit your works with attention to grammar, flow, structure, and content inclusion (or lack of needed content). If needed, the coach will assist you in creating a good step-by-step method in writing.
Writing coaches can be very helpful in improving one's writing. However, a writing coach is not usually a person that will "spare your feelings". Honesty is the name of the writing coache's game. Thier job is to point out ALL that is wrong with your writing. If they are good, they will also point out that which is already good.
" Spare your feelings " sounds very good idea. That's the 'old' prooven method in short time to gain better results. Thanks windygreen you have great coaching skills, you've taught me already . Gloryyyy !
Hi windygreen, thank you for your up front and candid answer. You are definitely the kind of writing coach I would want to work with - someone who would be honest. It is the best way to know and grow.
Both Marlene and Michael-- yes honesty is great .. but I have had issues with a few friends Ive worked with. Its easier to give and/or take critique fro a stranger than a friend- even tho it may seem otherwise.
Never worked with one, though having need of one ( desperately? ) . By reeding and commenting , coating takes place. Several outhors kindly have answered to my plea to " rigorous criticism " which I thankfully accepted . The others have encouraged to " write a hub " , to learn by experience .
Perhaps sometimes soon.
Hi Michael-Milec, I know what you mean. It is good to learn what a coach does, because like you said, most people will tell us to write more in order to learn. It's a good lesson, but sometimes I think we need more. A coach might be very valuable.
I'd be glad to help either or both of you out Michael and Marlene.

What is your opinion of people who always point out your mistakes in your hubsI love when people critique my work. It makes me a better writer. I make my corrections but I think sometimes people just do it to be mean. We all make mistakes in writing and I don't mind them being...

Is it rude to point out grammar/spelling mistakes on hubs via comments?I've come across numerous hubs that have grammar and spelling errors, some minor and some littered with mistakes. Otherwise, these hubs would be interesting and will written in my opinion. Is it rude to point out these mistakes...

How come I can't see a misspelled word in my own Hubs, but I can spot one a mile away on someone else's Hubs? I read one today that had a word used incorrectly (could have two different meanings, but spelled the same). The Hub had about 25 comments, and no one had mentioned the word. I...

Why is it that with terrorism going on, people are so apt to point out the "cruelty" of Christians?ISIS is a real threat. But people tend to downplay this, by trying to prove that Christians are worse. People love to play the "Hitler was a Christian" card. Anyone can...

Can anyone point out any mistake committed by Christ? For me Jesus Christ was the most honest and true human being on earth. I only find His words being twisted and turned by humans to suit their purposes.

Do you think it's polite to point out to a fellow hubber that they have misspelled a word or name?
