Can a modern-era writer "invent" a form of poetry?
Can one actually deliberately seek, and by self-assessment, achieve a genuinely original form(at) of poetry that is not contrived and superficial, and has, to put it ever so high brow, literary merit? Is this a false muse and/or a mere academic exercise. Form does help this writer focus, but is all I've done here give myself a template for my own discipline or what?
I think it is safe to assume that there are likely an infinite number of rhythmic patterns in which poetry could be written. However, I would think that in order to have literary merit, the pattern would have to follow the accented syllables in everyday speech so that someone could discern the pattern by reading rather than having to listen to a poem before they could properly read it.
There are an astounding amount of poetic forms: Ghazal--which I just discovered today, Haiku, Tanka, Villanelle and on and on. A variation of any of these or creation of a new rhyming pattern is possible. Rap (which I am not particularly fond of) can be classified as a new form of poetry, in my opinion. I think dedication, creativity and imagination can yield amazing results! Go for it!

Does it bother you when people call any short poem a haiku? As a haiku poet, does it bother you when people write a short poem, usually one that follows a 5-7-5 syllable pattern, and call it a haiku? Don't you wish people would learn what haiku is? I love the form, but I'm usually let down by what...

A few months ago, Pratonix stated that poetry should be compact, in good form, and without spelling error. It was argued that poetry can be anything. I agree with Pratonix. Gushing emotion in poetry is as bad as gushing emotion in reality. It's uncontrolled. Poetry...

If man can invent a gun silencer why is the leaf blower so noisy? Those gardening gadgets are so noisy and the leaf blower has been listed in surveys as the single most annoying noise from the neighbor. Why hasn't a silencer for the leaf blower been invented yet?

If you could invent something new, what product would you develop?
