The first book that left a major imprint on my psyche was Huxley's Brave New World. Atwood's The Robber Bride and Cat's Eye were wonderful introductions to women writing meaningfully about the lives of women. And quite by accident, when I was 17 I read three books in a row that were about men having mid-life crises: Lolita, Breakfast of Champions, and Steppenwolf. That was a trip.

I was never one for books with lessons learned, history, science or such things. Being a dreamer, I prefered stories with adventures, romance and mystery. I suppose they helped to shape who I am today...an avid day dreamer. But I do recall one National Scholastic book I bought through the schools called the 'Diary of Anne Frank'. It made me aware of the horrors of war and the unfairness through prejudice for being a particular nationality.

"The Last Victim" by Jason Moss. Scariest book I've ever read in my entire life.

    Hello,
I know this is self-centered but the books I typed up made a real impact in my life when I read them for the first time after finishing them. I was not pleased with myself or my typing.

It made me upset over the fact that I was a poor editor.

    Sincerely,

    Seth

The Source by James Michener - also Hawaii
Aztec by Gary Jennings + the sequels
All of the books by Lee Child - Jack Reacher series
All of the books by Walter Farley that I read as a child.
All of the books written by Isaac Asimov and many other sci-fi authors
The Dragons of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
Wired and Amped by Douglas E. Richards
And the best book of all time - Watership Down by Richard Adams
Of course, almost every book I read leaves its mark and I read a lot of books!

The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins has impacted me more than any other. I have questioned the existence of a "higher power" for at least a decade. This book finally made up my mind and urged me to explore the worlds of science and nature more closely. Non-Believer Nation by David Niose is also quite good.
