Are you still trying to be a professional writer?
Whether writing for yourself or for an audience how do you see yourself in all writing experiences? Are you a failure in writing?
When I was in college I dreamed of becoming a big time, well respected traveling rock critic, riding on Metallica's tour bus interviewing them for "Rolling Stone" ... y'know, like the kid in "Almost Famous."
That never panned out for numerous reasons, mostly due to my total naivete about how the music industry actually worked, my fear of failure and a whole lot of general ineptitude. So rather than take the leap I ended up going for a "safe" after-college job and put my writing dreams on the back burner aside from scribbling in my own personal journals. (Yeah, I kept a journal... I was a pretentious little @#$%. Hahaha.)
Umpteen years, one marriage, one mortgage and two children later, I'm too old for such nonsense now (and besides, the music industry is barely a shadow of what it once was...) so the sun has obviously set on my chances of ever becoming the next Lester Bangs. I'm OK with that. Therefore I treat my Hubbing as a hobby/outlet. I know I'm never gonna get rich but as long as as I still have fun with it, I'll keep posting my deranged ramblings.
You should consider writing a novel about someone who goes on those adventures. You're never too old to write a novel.
If I had the time, I would...haha. The only problem is I'd be accused of ripping off "Almost Famous."
Impressive! You should not give up on what you love best. Thank you.
I have a very specific image in my head of what kind of writer I want to be. And what I am right now, isn't it. I'm not the kind of person who is content with just self publishing and blogging. I want to be in a bookstore and a library. I want to be able to recommend my book without directing them to an obscure ebook website. I want to make enough money that I can quit the crappy job I've had for the last decade.
The backlash of this, as my wife points out, is that I've put entirely too much pressure on my writing. What had once been an enjoyable pastime is now a grueling battle between the story I want to read and the story an agent will buy. It hasn't been a pretty process. My only hope is that I still have time left to find the balance between the two. In the mean time, I'll just keep beating myself up over things I have no control over.
I am a dreamer from my childhood. I nourished several fantasy type of dreams as a child, even in my teens. I am 33+ now still I nourish one of them. I wanna be a famous writer one day. 'One day' is a day that never comes, you know. Yeah, now I am trying to become a professional writer. I don't think it's the right time to judge me now. There's a long way to go...
As I have told you before, I am a dreamer...

Do you find it hard to "sell yourself" as a professional writer?I'm talking more about reader response than critical evaluations here. Do you find that your audience is pretty responsive to your writing?

Yeah, I agree, and I brought this point up I think a couple years ago. I remember many years ago, before the Internet, I wanted to be a writer and I looked into it, looked for how to start writing anywhere, somehow. I found that publications look for writers to write on any subject, and as long as...
