What is your favorite book/series or author?

I"m on the look out for some new reading material, including some new authors, as I'm stuck in the same genre all the time, so I want to branch out a bit. So, what is your favorite book or series? Your favorite author?

James Patterson for anything relating to detective, murder/mystery stuff. Alex Cross, The Womens Murder Club, and Michael Bennet are pretty much no brainers in that area.

Jim Butcher for more of a fantasy fiction deal. The Dresden Files deals with the darker aspects of magic and has pretty much any mystical creature including vampires, goblins, werewolves etc. Even kicks it up a notch and brings in demons, arch angels, and fallen gods. If you have ever seen the cartoon Avatar the last Airbender and liked it, Codex Alera might be good to check out to.

Bernard Cornwell for historical fiction. The Arthur Books and The Grail Quest series were great, though they are the only 2 series I have ever read from him.

Basically if its anything related to fantasy/adventure fiction, I could probably give you enough series to read to last you for the next 3 years.

Wow! Thanks for that Link. I am a Fantasy reader, but more the Laurel Hamilton, Kim Harrison stuff at the moment - but some new series would be cool!. You've given me a lot to go look up (and read) now!

The very first fantasy books that got me into reading for fun in 4th grade were The Inheritance Cycle, Artemis Fowl, and Bartimaeus. They are probably why I keep a list of any books I read now, so I can remember what I want to go re read.

If you want to get away from Fantasy: try Matthew Reilly for non-stop action adventure eg. Ice Station
Anything written by Bryce Courtney is epic eg. The Power of One.
The best Young Adult series I have ever read is: Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden

Thanks Jodah. I own the Tomorrow series (as well as the Ellie ones that came after) - very good read. Bruce I've got a number of - but Matthew Reilly I've not - I'll have to check them out!

My favorite series right now would be Bartimaeus trilogy by Johnathan Stroud. This series involves a quippy footnote dialogue between the reader and the main character.

My favorite author is Garth nix because he is a very versatile and creative writer who can make very intricate worlds.
