Different writers choose different areas or topics or subjects for writing. Some write poems, some prefer love stories, others write general articles, some are keen in scientific writings, some write horror stories, some create only science fiction and so on.
Though I write on many topics but my main interest is science articles.

Aesthetic, esoteric (Metaphysical) poetry and essays
I have several irons in the fire, Bhattuc, and can't think which I prefer most. I'm a Yorkshireman, from the north-eastern corner of the county overlooking the North Sea with several ranges of hills to the south and west. So I've written a number of pages on travel and history within Yorkshire, as well as in neighbouring counties (Cumbria, Durham and Northumberland as far as Hadrian's Wall (England's smaller cousin to the one in China). I'm also pre-occupied at the moment with railway modelling, a series titled 'Rites of Passage For A Model Railway' numbers around thirty pages on various aspects as well as my own layouts. Then there are several historical series of pages, including 'Godwin's Clan' (on King Harold II's chaotic family up to and after invasion by King William I and his allies), "Life On The Fringe" (a play on the jokey term 'The celtic Fringe') about the many facets of Celtic life on the continent of Europe and Britain; there's a short series on one group of invaders, the Danes, a long series on the Norsemen, 'Viking' and of course there's 'Conquest' on the reasons why William thought he should be king of England as well as Duke of Normandy. There are pages in an eclectic mix of pages titled 'Heritage' that includes Sir Christopher Wren's churches in the City of London; London Bridge's long history started with the Romans' timber bridge that's directly under the present one. And then of course there are the pages on Epping Forest (where highwaymen including Dick Turpin held up private and Royal Mail carriages), the famous female (Yorkshire) farmer Hannah Hauxwell. Lastly there are at least a dozen short stories ... Enough to keep the reader occupied for at least year.
Mostly esoteric topics. But I haven't written for a long time.
So many, I can't think of any single topic. Exercise, sleep, diet, short stories, health, colouring, relaxation, learning ....
Strangely enough I have never actually felt passionate about writing, though I've claimed to be so and continue to claim such. I just feel driven to do it, as if there was some end-goal I can't yet see waiting at the end of a long list of writings. It is this idea of a brighter future attained through the conduit of writing that drives my, "passion," for writing.
As it concerns my main interest, however, I'd say that would be any topic that garners the most unspoken emotional responses from my readers. Essentially, my main interests orbit the, "performative," more so than any sort of chronicling. If it has the power to hit deeply, especially in an unnecessarily negative way that brings the reader's attention to their own illogical biases and fallacies, then I suppose that is my passion.
Concisely: Power and sway are my passions in life, and that bleeds into my writing.
This is a good question.
I have written and published everything from poems to short stories as well as magazine and newspaper articles. I've done well writing non-fiction in many different ways.
I have also had hundreds of my humor columns on family life published over the years.
My favorite is to write fiction. I enjoy creating an imaginary world where I am in control and have the characters behave the way I see them.
I can't do it as much as I would like, but it is when I feel the most free as a writer.

What strong childhood hobbies or interests have you taken into adulthood? We all have some hobby or interest that we 'get into' when we're young but have you continued with anything specific that has a definite grip on you? Perhaps you turned a hobby into a job or an interest became a vocation?...
