Best Neighborhoods to live in Greenville, SC

Best Places to Live in Greenville

Greenville is a rapidly growing city in the Upstate of South Carolina. Once a center of textile manufacturing, the economy in Greenville has transitioned nicely into high tech sectors and auto manufacturing. If you are moving to Greenvillle, I have advice on where to buy a home or rent an apartment.

First decide how close downtown you would like to be. Downtown Greenville is the cultural and entertainment center of the Upstate. It has fine dining, a regional theater, and a minor league baseball stadium. If you like to be at the center of it all, there are new condos being built along Main St.

If you want a quieter street, the home values of the historic neighborhoods near downtown are rising steadily. Augusta St. has long been place where wealthy Greenvillians made their home, but other neighborhoods nearby did not always enjoy the same status. Today there are bargains in neighborhoods that are near Augusta St.

Greenville has a chain of suburbs that follow the Reedy River south. Historically, this is because mills cropped up along the river because they were powered by the moving water. Today, these towns offer affordable places to live with quick access to downtown via I-385.

Mauldin boasts the ICAR research center. This high tech facility is bringing business to the area. Both old and new houses are readily available and the schools in Mauldin are some of the best in the county.

Simpsonville is very similar to Mauldin, though a bit farther from downtown.

North of the city is the previously sleepy town of Traveler's Rest. TR is the home to Furman University and has ample mountain properties and rural properties to choose from, yet it is still minutes from downtown.

If access to Greenville and Spartanburg is desirable, Greer offers the proximity to both cities. It is one of the fastest growing cities in South Carolina and new developments are keeping home prices low, low, low.

Best Schools in Greenville County

While traditionally there have been very few private school options in Greenville, SC, this is changing. Today there are Christ Church Episcopal School, Shannon Forest, St. Joseph's, and the new Palmetto Prep.

Greenville County School System still serves most children in the county. But not all Greenvile County schools are created equal. Some high schools frequently rank higher than others in test scores. The five best high schools in Greenville County are Riverside High School, Mauldin High School, Eastside High School, Wade Hampton High School, and Hillcrest High School.

Academics aside these schools also offer a lot in the way of extracurricular activities.
