A Review of the Champagne Jewel Antiqued Lantern from Pier 1 Imports

If you are not interested in your standard candle holder, you might just want to stop by Pier 1 Imports. Pier 1 Imports features items for your home, but with a bit of a flare. If you are looking for something original, or perhaps a unique gift for the friend that has everything, I would recommend checking out Pier 1 Imports. Most specifically, I would recommend purchasing a tealight lantern from Pier 1 Imports. My favorite of all the Pier 1 Imports lanterns is the Champagne Jewel Antiqued Lantern.
Pier 1 Imports features a large assortment of home decorations. This particular tealight candle holder is not only beautiful, but it is very reasonably priced. It is sophisticated enough for someone very picky, but it is also really fun for friends with a whimsical side. The candle holder / lantern has a brass look to it and the inside is mirrored. When you light a tealight candle in it, the reflections beam all over the room. The door of the lantern even has a jewel on the front of it. If you didn't know any better, you actually might think the Champagne Jewel Antiqued Lantern really is an antique. It is a really wonderful addition to any home!
Beauty
When it comes to beauty, the Champagne Jewel Antiqued Lantern really is top notch. The mini-version of the lattern is what I own and it is about 8 inches tall. It is just tall enough to attract attention from visitors, but not too big. It easily fits in a bookshelf or on top of a cabinet.
The mirrors on the inside of the lantern make it dazzle and sparkle when a tealight candle is lit inside. This is the perfect effect for a quiet, romantic evening. It is also great for just relaxing at home. Although this item is beautiful when lit, it is still amazing without lighting a candle in it at all. The antiqued look makes it very classy.
Usefulness
Although the Champagne Jewel Antiqued Lantern is very beautiful, it is not necessarily the most useful item you will have in your home. Let's put it this way, if you want a lantern you can use if the electricity goes out so you can wander around in the pitch black darkness, this is not your lantern. If you want something that looks pretty in your livingroom, this is the right choice for you.
The first thing I noticed while using this lattern is how hot it gets within a very short period of time. Just a simple tealight candle goes in the lantern, but it melts almost immediately because of the heat. If you try to lift the handle while the candle is lit, you could very well burn your fingers. For this reason, if you have small children, I would recommend putting the lantern in an out of reach spot or perhaps not lighting it at all. Furthermore, you could find the door on the lantern is often too hot to open when the candle is lit. I usually blow out the candle through one of the ventilation holes in the top of it.
As much as I love this lantern, I will say it is not that practical for giving off a lot of light. The Champagne Jewel Antiqued Lantern is there to look pretty. If your power goes out, you will not be reading by candle light with this one. If you want a really useful lantern, go to the camping section in Walmart; this lantern is all about ambience.
Price
The price is probably what I found most shocking about the Champagne Jewel Antiqued Lantern. I expected it to be rather costly since Pier 1 Imports is not known to be a discount store by any stretch of the imagination. However, this lantern is only $10. If you want to larger version of it, that is only $15. For such an attractive decoration, I find those prices to be very reasonable.
In my opinion, the price makes this lantern an excellent gift choice. It is so beautiful, it will appeal to those with discriminating taste in home decor. This lantern with some tealight candles makes a perfect Christmas present. Your friend will think you spent a fortune!

Final Thoughts
Overall, I feel the Champagne Jewel Antiqued Lantern is an excellent candle holder. As an actual lantern, it probably isn't going to be the best choice, but I don't believe anyone would purchase it for practical purposes. It is reasonably priced and extremely attractive. I receive many compliments about the lantern. I am considering buying some as gifts for friends this holiday season. It is a beautiful decoration for any home.
Although I would love to give it a perfect 5 star rating, I am disappointed about the handle of the lantern becoming so hot once a candle is lit inside. After all, this lantern is created for the purpose of lighting tealight candles inside. The entire lantern, handle and door included, should not become extremely hot within a short period of time. Due to the burn risk, I do have to give it a slightly lower rating.
I would still recommend this as a decoration in any home; I would just keep it unlit if small children are going to be near it. Due to its beauty, price, and "giftability" I am giving the Champagne Jewel Antiqued Lantern 4 stars.
