When Does The Cleaning Stop

Updated on June 3, 2010

I Have Been Cleaning Forever And A Day

Looking for the right way

To keep the house looking nice

Dusting off and moving things around

Over the years things seem to accumulate

Suddenly everything I ever wanted is right before my eyes

One pile after another of things I couldn't live without

I don't understand it

I didn't have this stuff years ago

Where did it all come from?

Did I buy it slowly over time

Was it gifts from Christmas and birthdays

Do you experience this?

Did I think I was doing right and making things neater and more organized all the time

I have folders and file cabinets of old bills your suppose to save

I have shelves with dishes and glasses

Draws filled with kitchen utensils and gadgets

How much space have I compromised over time

To save all the things that I needed for a lifetime

Do we just throw it out and never look back

What if we need it?

But we didn't need it till now

Why all of a sudden

What a crazy world we live in

Where all are rooms are filled with all kinds of possessions

From blankets to sheets

Towels to cosmetics

The definition of possessions

The state of being possessed

The definition of possessed

Controlled by evil spirits; beyond self control

How do we free ourselves of the things we don't need?

How do we down size and keep only the essential things?

We have magazines we plan to read

We have cabinets stocked with food

Pots and pans and silverware for every purpose

We have things we have bought and clothes that we purchased

There are shoes, sneakers, boots and hats

So we can look sharp and live nice

We have cleaners and tools for every use

We have summertime things

From coolers to beach chairs to bug sprays

Lawn care tools, hoses and weed block to garden stakes

We have winter shovels and a  snow blower to boot

The gas grill and a mesquito magnet for summer needs

The riding mower, shovels and rakes

Push mower to get those places where we can't reach

Winter clothes like jackets and sweaters put away

Summer clothes and shorts and tank tops

We have board games and balls for sports

There is Christmas ornaments, a fake tree and more fun stuff for the house

Special table ceramics and more decorations to see for other holidays too

There are candles and gifts that we were given that we haven't used just yet

Pictures that hang on the walls

A tv. and dvd player.and a stereo for more pleasure

MP3 player and cell phones

Air conditioners and fans

A closet full of gift wrap and special dress clothes

Lamps, bureaus, a bed and a futton

We have tools for every possible need

A cd. player and cd's for music enjoyment

Records and record player so the good times will always last

We have a computer and a printer

A laptop, office supplies and paper

A mini library of books to treasure

Automotive shop supplies from windshield washer fluid to oil

A vacume cleaner,a broom, a dust mop and a wet mop

Does it ever stop

It is showdown time

Everything we could ever need

A foot massager and exercise mat with hand weights

A washer and dryer with detergents and paper napkins and paper towels

What happened to when we had nothing

And what if we had to start all over again

Would we replace the old

Or go without

My mind only wonders

What if I was a traveling salesman

And only needed a suitcase and a few essentials

Would I be better off and live a life of simplicity

Let others clean and search for a spot

To put the newest thing in its proper place

Will  there be an end to this rat race

It seems we never have enough things. Every so often I find I have to have a yard sale just to keep myself from becoming a borderline hoarder.

Yolanda yvette Is it our society or is it greed? How can we live a simpler life with less stress and less things. The search continues for less and less.THank you so much and may you have what you always wanted and may it fill only one room.

You surely hit the nail on the head. We all seem to want more stuff (more stuff to maintain, clean up and take care of in one way or another, robbing us of freedom, time and peace).

      Wonderful hub.

Clearing out I have decided, is so liberating. Shedding the excess makes me feel lighter. Trouble is I'm always chucking stuff out....does it breed?! Great hub, much enjoyed, thank you.

LOL, yes this is the time of year that we all feel this way, time for that garage sale, time to make a few dollars for almost new stuff. I have no idea where I gathered all this stuff from. Charming hub, made me laugh...
