What is the best part for you about completing yardwork?
The recent ~heat-wave~ has eased somewhat where I live and today I cut the grass for the first time in over a month. I thought of several things that I enjoy when it's done. Having a cold beer. Taking a cool shower. Having a lawn that looks more presentable. The feeling that there is one less thing on the "to do" list.
I grew up in the country, and I love the smell of fresh cut grass. I also like how groomed the yard looks after the grass has just been cut and edged.
Once the hard work is done it is much easier to visualize and plan: a future landscape or a time with friends.
However, the work itself is fulfilling as yard work teaches me how to handle my limitations and curve my pride while trying to push back a forest. I feel smaller by day's end since what I planned did not happen.
Completing my yardwork means I'm doing everything I can to support my husband and I. For those of you with "manicured" landscapes, it means I've deviated away from the wasteful practices of mown lawns and useless plants, and replaced them with vegetables, herbs, and usefull edible flowers, bushes, plants, and trees. I'm saving money in the long run by growing a lot of our own food. For me, that is a very satisfying result to get in a world of rising prices and ecomonic down fall.
