How do you remove candle wax dye from fabric?
Over the weekend, I spilled a large jar of dark purple candle wax all over a homemade cotton placemat. I was able to remove all of the hardened wax from the surface, but there is still a huge stain. I've tried a few different recommended solutions for removing the dye (rubbing alcohol, seltzer water), but nothing has worked. Does anyone have another suggestion?
I was always told that, in the case of spilling wax on fabric, to place a piece of brown paper over the wax stain and iron on top of the paper. The heat from the iron melts the wax and it separates from the fabric and is then absorbed into the paper. Good luck!
I used this system that Sage in a Cage mentioned
Years ago when I was making batiks, you would place a line of wax on the design to stop the ink dye running into each other. When your batik is finished you remove the wax with the paper and hot iron. Worked everytime.
Thanks for your input! I actually already used the paper bag idea to remove the wax, and it's the DYE STAIN that was left behind that I'm trying to remove. Other ideas?
