Here in the UK, the problem isn't necessarily the amount of police (although this is becoming more of an issue) but rather poor, aggressive, and violent policing that is unaccountable and out of control. Black and Asian men are 30 times more likely to be stopped and searched without due reason, and young men, especially in inner cities, often feel harassed and disrespected.
Police misconduct is investigated by police officers themselves - so investigations are not impartial, thorough or fair.
Anti-terror legislation is often used to justify draconian measures which work against our freedom, liberty and common sense.
Sad to say, also, police have recently killed men, without adequate explanation, in dubious circumstances and with little remorse or accountability. We need root and branch change here in the UK.
Yes. Even though I don't think I see them out very often, every time I seem to get a heavy foot on the car petal, there is always a cop around to write me a ticket.
It depends on the town and the city's budget for police. Where I live, no I don't think we have enough. We got put on hold once calling 911. Seriously.
It depends on the town and how many tax dollars they take in to be able to afford hiring more officers. In my town the police department employs approximately 2,600 people, and close to 1,800 of them are actual sworn officers. However, in the next county over, which is more rural, there may only be 6-8 officers patroling at any given time because the population/tax base is not enough to hire more officers.
