What is the best way to get rid of thorn bushes?

My husband and I purchased some farm land. We intend to eventually  hire a bulldozer for clearing but I would like to clear an area by the creek to enjoy this summer. Goats aren't an option, unfortunately; or any animal.  I've been clearing manually with hedge trimmers, weedeater,  grass clippers, chain saw, etc but I'm hoping someone has better tips.  These are thorn bushes not honey locust or similar tree.

Is it safe to use fire?  Can you get permission from local authorities?

Do you have enough room to pull them out with a rope and a truck?

What area do you need to clear? What type of thorn bushes, wild rose, briars or something else? If you just cut down to ground level they are likely to sprout again.
Maybe you could hire something like this if the ground is reasonably level/firm.

If you don't have too many bushes, I would persevere with a hedge trimmer/brush cutter/chainsaw and treat any future growth sprouting from the stumps with a herbicide.
It's a good idea also to wear goggles/safety glasses when cutting this sort of stuff!
