Security Alarm Systems For Home and More

Updated on August 14, 2013

Protect your home and most importantly, your loved ones

Hi, Jake here again. Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been a victim of a crime? How about someone you know? How does it feel? Words like, helpless and anger come to my mind.

Many years ago my wife and I took a vacation only to have our home burglarized when we were a thousand miles away. I was hurt, frustrated and angry that we suddenly became victims to a senseless act. What could we have done to prevent it?

The truth is, you can't fully prevent break-ins, but you can certainly deter them. Did you know that in the US, 1 out of every 10 homes will be burglarized this year? A break-in occurs every 13 seconds. Do all you can to steer a thief from your door by installing alarms or other measures that will keep the criminal thinking that your house isn't worth the risk.

With the advent of the deadbolt in the 1960s, residential burglaries began their descent [source: Sullivan]. As more homes installed them in the 1970s, burglaries went on a steady decline and reached a plateau in the past few years. Today, 25 percent of homes in the United States have electronic security systems, not to mention reinforced glass, superior lock technology and a veritable army of private security guards monitoring neighborhoods [source: Sullivan].

But in spite of the dwindling numbers, almost 1.5 million homes were broken into in 2006 [source: FBI Uniform Crime Reports]. And when burglaries happen, police often have a difficult time tracking down the culprits. Of all property and violent crime clearance rates reported by the FBI, burglary ties for the lowest at 12.6 percent in 2006 [source: FBI Uniform Crime Reports].

When thinking about how to prevent this from happening to you, there are a few things you should keep in mind. When thieves break into homes, there's a greater chance of them doing so during the day when many people are at work. Also, around 40 percent of annual household burglaries in the United States are not forced entries, meaning someone was able to walk, climb or crawl inside of houses almost as easily as if the owners left a key in the door [source: Bureau of Justice Statistics].

The economy is rough right now and crime is up across the country. Break-ins happen to the rich, poor and everyone in between. It can happen to you and chances are, one day it will.

Read on to see what YOU can do today to protect your possessions and your family.

Alarms Come In Many Forms

Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm System

Highest Customer Satisfaction for Whole-Home Systems

Featuring rolling-code technology, the Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm System provides maximum security and reduces the likelihood of false alarms. Suitable for homes, offices, 24-hour stores, businesses, or wherever security is a concern, this all-in-one system offers a 100-foot operating range, installs in minutes, and requires no monitoring services or fees.

Reliable, Cutting-Edge System Uses Trouble-Free Wireless Connections

Keep your home or business safe and secure with this reliable, cutting-edge wireless security system. The SC-1000 utilizes innovative technology with trouble-free wireless connections to provide security, making it a great choice for protecting against intruders and safeguarding in case of an accident, fire, flood, or other emergency.

Do-it-Yourself Security Eliminates the Need for Monitoring Fees

The SC-1000 is a do-it-yourself system, which means you can easily install it yourself and then use it without paying monitoring fees or registering with an alarm company. To arm or disarm, you simply enter your personal code or use the keychain transmitter.

Rolling-Code Technology for Maximum Security and Fewer False Alarms

Skylink is the first company to incorporate rolling-code technology into a home/business security system, which means that the SC-1000 provides maximum security while virtually eliminating the number of false alarms. A rolling code (or hopping code) is often used in entry systems that don't require a key, because it prevents an eavesdropper from capturing and using your personal security code. Thanks to rolling-code technology, the SC-1000's control panel will recognize radio waves only from its remote sensors (door/window sensor, motion sensor, and keychain transmitter), thereby preventing high-tech thieves from duplicating signals and tampering with your system.

Motion, Door, and Window Sensors for Reliable Emergency Protection

The SC-1000 comes complete with a motion sensor and two door/window sensors--enough coverage for small- to medium-sized homes. Because it works in conjunction with up to 30 Skylink security accessories, including Dial Alert, Alarm Detector Sensor, and Flood Sensor, this system can be customized to suit your needs and can be expanded to accommodate larger spaces or businesses that require a higher level of protection. If any sensors are triggered when the system is armed, the included 110dB siren will make a piercing sound, and the sensor will immediately send a wireless signal to the system's dialer.

Automatically Calls for Help in an Emergency

In case of an emergency, the SC-1000 follows a straightforward process to make sure you get the help you need. When you receive the system, you can program the emergency dialer to call up to nine different phone numbers, including your cellular phone, a pager, your doctor, relatives, friends, neighbors, etc., should something trigger one of the sensors. You'll also record a personal 40-second emergency message. In case of emergency, the system's dialer will automatically dial the number or numbers you have entered. Once the recipient picks up the phone, the emergency dialer will play your prerecorded message and inform the recipient that you are in an emergency situation and that help should be sent right away.

Lighted Keypad and Low-Battery Indicator for Easy Operation

Offering simple and straightforward operation, the SC-1000 features a lighted keypad that is easy to read in dark conditions and offers Chime, Instant, and Delay modes. It runs on AC power with nine-volt alkaline battery backup (battery included), and provides a helpful low-battery indicator to prevent a loss of power.

No measuring or messing with templates. Using the included double-side tape or screws, simply attach the mounting plate in the desired location and snap the door alarm into place--it's that simple. And best of all it requires no wiring.

Using the deluxe door alarm is a breeze. You can select instant or delayed alarms with the flip of an easy-access switch. In the 'Away' mode, you have 45 seconds to exit your home after you arm the system. When you get back home, simply open the door and deactivate the alarm within 30 seconds by entering your custom four-digit code. The 30-second delay helps to eliminate false triggering of the alarm. When you're home, simply select 'Home' mode for an instant alarm.

With a 120-decibel siren, the GE51107 Wireless Alarm System Kit is loud enough to alert you or your neighbors of a possible break-in. The siren is sure to scare any intruder, and will give you plenty of warning to alert the authorities and get your family to safety.

When not in 'Alarm' mode, all the alarms in the Alarm Kit offer a chime setting that alerts each time a door is opened. This is a great safety feature if you have small children that may make their way outside unsupervised.

Three Window Alarms for Added Security

The GE51107 Personal Security Alarm Kit also includes three independent window alarms, each with a built-in 120-decibel alarm for even greater home security. With no wires required for installation, protecting any window in your home is as easy as attaching the window alarm to your window with screws or double-sided tape (included). Each window alarm features an on/off/chime switch for easy operation and a battery-test switch for checking battery life. Each alarm requires four LR44 batteries (included) that last up to a year.

Fact:

Most break-ins are not planned and are simply just 'crimes of opportunity'. With this being said the question you need to ask is, how much of an opportunity are you giving unknowingly? Is your home considered an 'easy target'? and do you do enough to protect your home and family from burglary?
