Save Money in a Pickle Jar

Updated on July 26, 2011

I chose a pickle Jar to save money

What was that? Save Money in a Pickle Jar?

For some of us it is hard to save money. We have good intentions but just can't seem to get the ball rolling. Something always seems to get in the way. Every week we say "On pay day I'm going to put some money in the bank even if it is just $5.00".

Then pay day rolls around, bills have to get paid, groceries have to be bought, kids need stuff and therefore that payday week there is none left over. So putting that $5.00 in the bank that week will have to wait till NEXT week! How many times has this happened to you? More than you can count I bet. There is a way that you can save and do it faithfully.

JUST START PUTTING YOUR CHANGE IN A PICKLE JAR!!!! Yup that's right, here's how your going to do it.

Empty your pocket or wallet Every FRIDAY

Every Friday evening go through  your wallet, purse, pockets, Dryer, car and every where else you can think of and gather all change ( quarters, dimes, nickles and pennies).

Dump them in a clean, large pickle jar and put that jar in a safe place. Every three months dump it out and count the change, roll it in money rolls and take to the bank. You might have accumulated $100.00 or more.

Now Let's do the math with the $100.00 in change.

3 months = $100.00

3x4= $400.00

So in one year you saved $400.00 in quarters, dimes, nickles and pennies.

Do you think you can do that?

Why a pickle Jar?

It's just easy and convenient to use a Pickle jar. The great big one is what I'm talking about. The one where your hand will fit into it. It's thick and can hold an abundance amount of coins with out breaking due to the weight of the coins. You can see how the money starts to stack up as you continue to save. By seeing the money it will make you want to continue to add to it just to see how fast you can fill it up. You will think twice about spending that change or that $$ bill. Instead you'll want to put it in your pickle jar to fill it up faster.

Yes......... it's a mind thing!!!! But if it works to help you save some money then don't you think it is worth it?

Don't use the excuse- well I can see the money and that makes me want to spend it! turn your thinking around to this: I can see the money and I want to fill up the jar in a hurry so I can put it in the bank and start over. Thus, giving you more money saved.

Will you start saving money in your pickle jar?

Useful commonsense advice for we 'dill pickles'. :-)
