Ernst Rohms parents had to be middle or upper class as was the way that some one could get the officer training then, you see because the normal working class people like me would only be privates.
He was a 1st leutenant(ober leutnant) to begin with so he had officer training and then won the field commission to become a captain (hauptman) in the first world war which left his face disfigured.
