Should I file BK or wait to see the results of the short sale?
I have a signed purchase agreement. Estimated closing is 7/15. I will be leaving the state before the close. Should I file bankruptcy or wait to see what happens with the short sale?
This will all depend on the rest of your financial situation as well, since there is a LOT that goes into bankruptcy and determining which type you can qualify for. I'm assuming since you're leaving the state then your property is not your primary residence, though if it were it would be exempt from a bankruptcy. The best thing to do is talk to a qualified financial planner that specializes in bankruptcy and financial crises, as opposed to one that specializes in investment. Bankruptcy attorneys can be a resource, though in most cases there is a lot they're prohibited by law from telling you that a planner can.
