Do you think single people should be allowed to adopt a child?
No, not that I have anything against one parent families, some children are forced into this through unfortunate circumstances. However, as a society, we should not be consciously imposing this situation upon children.
Yes. If they have the financial and emotional strength to support the child. I imagine some single parents do a better job than two-parent families. There are lots of children living as wards of the state in the US and abroad who would benefit and die for a chance to live in a loving home -- whether headed by a single parent or not.

Do you think people should have to display an understanding of politics before being allowed to voteI don't mean an in-depth understanding, just a basic one of how government works and what each party/candidate stands for.

Single women are allowed without an issue to adopt children. Are the standards different for single men? What if the child was a girl?
