What are some easy, non-time consuming ways to earn money?

I have a crazy schedule and it would be difficult to get even a part time job. I already take surveys for companies online for a bit of extra money, but does anyone have any other ideas for making some extra money in their free time?

Whenever I take time to exercise by riding a bike, I also pick up aluminum cans that I find on the side of the road.  Sometimes this means I'm getting on and off the dang bike more than I am riding the thing - that's fine, as "canning" cleans up the streets a bit, and makes me beer money.

Have you considered freelance writing instead of using HubPages, for example stories and poetry, to your local newspaper/magazine etc? This can be a real moneyspinner and a way to calm down, destress and relax for you.

One way is to research some mutual funds and find one that has a nice steady return.  When I say steady, that means it does not have huge ups and downs when the dow takes a dive or waffles back and forth.

Put a little money into a fund and hopefully watch it grow.  Some funds, like American Funds can be purchased for as little as $250.  I'm sure there are others.  It is something that takes little time, may pay off in the long run.

Depending on your location and whether you have a pickup or a trailer, recycling metals can be a great second or even first income. People who have scrap steel usually don't care if you take it, so you can ask them then load it in truck or trailer and keep till you get a good amount. Then take it all in to the recycler. In the last three months I've made roughly 1,700 dollars doing just that.
