First you will need to submit an application for license and complete all required courses. In most states you can only apply for a bail license thru your state's department of insurance office.
Well hmm, this is an interesting question, mostly because their are a few different ways on how to become an agent. But I would like to suggest, just to get a foot in the door and decide if this is really something that you might like to do is go and speak with an investigations company in your area. Becoming a bond agent is similar. If you believe that you are ready to invest yourself, then go to your State or Local Board on Private Security, here in Texas we are governed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. They have a web address and have lot's of information on how and where to get started and the licensing requirements. Once you have your basic licensing requirements, then I would say begin approaching Bail Bond companies with your resume. ABOVE ALL present yourself in a very professional manner, dress appropriately, this does not mean to go into an interview dressed in all black clothing with the words Bail Agent emblazened across your chest. Go into the interview as if you were applying for a job at a bank, as this is virtually what you are doing. You are applying for a job to protect and secure the assets of the company, you will be a loan officer. I have interviewed and turned down lot's of men and women who come in with a gung ho, "I'm going to crack some heads" "Dog the bounty Hunter" type personalities. This is NOT APPROPRIATE for this industry. It gives our industry a bad name and generally makes us look like we think we are above the law when it comes to securing our assets. This is not true and unfortunately Mr. Dog has set our industry back greatly. You have to love the business to be successful, and to have the respect you deserve you have to command it with your professionalism. Okay I have waxed on here, but my suggestion, go and speak to an actual "bounty hunter" from a REPUTABLE company, as these people will be truthful and honest about what it takes and we are always willing to charm you with our true life stories.
