I try to base my shopping list on what is on sale and on what coupons I have. Sometimes it is also handy to buy items in bulk, just make sure they are items you are actually going to use before they spoil.
Try not to buy packaged/processed food. When my twelve year old goes shopping with me, I tell him he can get anything with one or two ingredients.
I agree with Stressbust. The grocery store ads come out Wednesday mornings, so I look through and try to buy only what is on sale that week. With summer coming, we'll save money by buying from the local farmer's market and growing most of our own vegetables and herbs. I do save coupons, but most of the time they're not for anything we purchase. Still, I take my coupon caddy to the store every time because you never know!

I love that you don't have to pay full price for anything! Simply do a search on an item or a retailer and you can find coupons to either print or use a discount code during your transaction. You can sign up for daily deals and get email notifications to purchase a great deal.
