Where is your dream location to retire?

If you could retire anywhere, where would it be?  If you care to share why you picked that place, that would be awesome too.

We will retire (at least summers) at our camp on a lake in Maine.  We have friends that we have know for years there and it close to our favorite place, Acadia National Park.  Where we spend winters is still up in the air (but also years away).

My husband and I have a dream house, (vacation home) that we have building for several years. It's located in a in Lanesboro Pa.This house has a beautiful Landmark in the Back Yard that is fun to watch. The Starucca Viaduct, this is a train bridge that is still used to this day by the Susquehanna Railroad. Once this house is completed this will be an ideal retirement place for the Summer months. Although, the winter months up in Pennsylvania are very cold and the cost to heat this home quite a lot. We have been talking about trying to purchase a house in Florida or down South for the Winter Months. What places in the South would you suggest, someplace where the weather is nice during the winter months?

I would love to retire where I grew up--on the island of Kaua'i.

Although I'd prefer to find a home somewhere in Kapa'a, I'd readily settle for anyplace on the Garden Island.

Every feasible address is just minutes away from the ocean.

Dozens of fruits and vegetables are within walking or bicycling distance.

Shops catering to tourists and locals alike are abundant in every small town on the island.

The closest thing to a burgeoning metropolis is the county seat of Lihu'e...and even then, it's not so burgeoning, and the urban sprawl is closely regulated.

As a writer and eBayer, there are an abundant amount of inexpensive office rentals--my colloquialism for coffee shops with free Wi-Fi.

Above all, I am blessed with loving family members in that idyllic setting who had better sense than me to stay put.

Thank you, oceansnsunsets, for having asked the question. It gave me pause to reflect on how fortunate and grateful I am to have lived in Polynesian Eden.

I would love to retire to New Zealand. Specifically somewhere near Milford Sound if possible. Milford Sound is a fjord in the southwest part of New Zealand's South Island. It has amazing waterfalls and very beautiful landscapes. New Zealand is supposed to have a top standard of living too. I think it would be great to experience moving and living to such and exoctic location, yet, where the standard of living ie. great infrastructure etc are a step up.
