What do you think about states imposing mileage taxes to make up lost gas tax revenue?
I recently read a news story about states planning to impose a mileage tax levy to make up for lost gas tax revenue caused by hybrid vehicles and more fuel efficient vehicles. The idea is to use GPS technology to track mileage transmitted by your car to the gas pump which will calculate the tax owed. We could be paying a gas tax and a mileage tax in the near future, especially when cars are going to be required to have greater per gallon mileage (as much as 55 miles per gallon). There are plans for third party vendors to be used to calculate and collect taxes owed and pass it to governments.
Another bill to pay, another form to fill out, I don't think so. Why not just raise the gas tax amount. Those who drive more will pay more than those who only drive a little. Either way you do it, no matter what you call it, it is just another form of taxation.
just another sign that you are moving further and further away from a free country.
This new to me. I can see more and more scooters begin driven on the rode or bikes. Walking is always a good one -- unless they plan on taxing that too.

So, Mitt's taxes came out today...paying 13.9% this year. Oddly, he ended up paying more to the Mormon Church than he paid in taxes.
