Not necessarily. The love of money is only a negative when you place the pursuit over wealth above things such as the love of your family. But I think the vast majority of people rich or poor, pursue wealth to provide for themselves and their families and give them the finer things in life. I see nothing wrong with that. All over the world Millionaires and Billionaires make some amazing charitable contributions. Many go unreported because they're not always interested in the publicity. But many who pursue wealth do wonderful things for others. Sometimes people are simply workaholics, and feel unproductive when they aren't accomplishing something. But I wouldn't immediately condemn people who seem obsessed with wealth.
The pursuit of money as a means for doing something else is not evil. The pursuit of money as its own ends can be very evil. Wanting money just to have stuff is very misguided. What's funny is that in our free country, capitalism is based on selfish pursuits, both in a positive way and a negative way. One businessman's greediness can be beneficial for many. However, that does not mean his actions are any less evil.
