Raise the minimum wage?
A mom of four works full time for $8 an hour. She makes about $15,000 a year. Her poor income forces her to apply and use government assistance. Her estimated income tax return is more than $5,000. Wouldn't it make sense to raise the minimum wage, allow her to get off of welfare, get a smaller tax return (in some cases not get a refund, rather pay a tax)? This would cost the government less AND allow for more paid taxes to come in, raising the budget.
Yes as long as it is fair across the board. For example if minimum wage is increased by $2.00 then wages for somebody who gets paid a higher wage should get a $2.00 increase as well
You can't justify raising the minimum wage when there is workforce participation at the rate of the 1970s. Wages are further depressed by millions of illegal aliens working under the table, and raising the minimum wage will only increase demand for them but not pay rates for Americans.
The Debate, or lack thereof about Raising the Minimum Wage for Hard Working Americans is essentially over ~ While the CONservative Republican Led Congress continues to OBSTRUCT a Minimum Wage Increase while advocating Massive Tax Breaks for Wall Street, Progressive States such as California, New York & Others have already begun to RAISE the Minimum WAGE to $15 per hr as a start ~
Why does a mom that doesn't have a good job become a mom four times? So raising the minimum wage would allow her more children?
Instead of raising the minimum wage, we need to train more people to get better paying jobs, and in order to do that, we need to stop our jobs from leaving the country.
It is more complex than that, but raising the min wage is just a band aid, not a solution.
Whow.... Sir, I never specified her history or job occupation. What if she is a widow? What if the husband was sick? What if he just up and left? This is the problem with conservative thinking...
It doesn't change my answer, and labeling me is not an answer.
The problem here is that you didn't really read my comment past the first line.
wow, you leaped to a bad conclusion about conservative, I am neither conservative nor liberal.
Sorry, you certainly sounded like a conservative.
Thanks
If you read my hubs you would have found that I have problems with both parties.

Why should the minimum wage be raised? The purpose of a minimum wage is to gain skills & move up to the next level. There is a reason why some jobs are minimum wage-because they require very little or no skills. Your thoughts.

Once again there is a call to raise the minimum wage.Now....common sense and a little education will tell you that when you raise the minimum wage, prices go up to compensate. Also, you stand the chance of having a nice little spike in unemployment from the smaller businesses that can no longer...

Two trains of thought are being bantered back and forth. Does a raising of the minimum wage create job loss and lower profits and more unemployment or does it increase disposable income thereby jump starting the economy and increasing hiring?
