COMMON OUTRAGE
WHERE DO I START?
My outrage is extended to so many areas I hardly know where to start. "Common" is a rapper whose real name is Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr. I am not a follower nor listener of rap music so I had not heard of him until a couple of days ago when I heard that he had been invited to the White House for a poetry celebration. That sounds honorable enough. So why am I outraged?
Outrage #1In a song, "Common" glorified Joanne Chesmair, a convicted cop killer, prison escapee who is taking in refuge in Cuba. In another song he espoused the killing of then President Bush. I have heard people lamely justify listening to such garbage as "people don't really listen to the words". You don't have to listen to the lyrics you can Google - common lyrics and get a copy of lyrics of all the songs on his albums. To openly support such criminals and criminal activity is legal in this country but definitely despicable.
Outrage #2 I am outraged that such a person would be "honored" by receiving an invitation to the White House. In this outrage I have several sub-outrages. "Sub-outrage A"The president and first lady are parents of young daughters. That is setting a poor example for them and it is sending a very negative message to young people across this nation. I don't see how his invitation to the White House can be seen as anything but an endorsement of "Common's" message. "Sub-outrage #B"Are not all White House events payed for with tax payer dollars? I don't like my money being spent for such nonesense endorsements. "Sub-outrage C" Every event sponsored by the White House get world wide publicity. What kind of message does that carry to the world. We have our military men and women endangering their lives daily to promote peace around the world yet our president and first lady endorses violence at home. (My blood is about to boil.)
Outrage #3I am outraged that others are not outraged. Why was there not such a stink raised that they were forced to uninvite him? Perhaps it was because the media did not expose it in time. Actually it wasn't that it wasn't covered in time but some of the media didn't cover it at all.
Outrage #4I am outraged that with such moral decay in our country we can solicit God's blessings. There seems to be no shame for our sins. (Many do not even believe in or acknowledge sin exists.) If I insult someone it would take a lot of gall to turn around and ask a favor of them. Yet we consistently do that to Almighty God.
