Upside Down, Down Under

Australia

Whilst in Canberra, the capital of Australia this week, President Obama said that the European leaders lacked the political will to solve the economic crisis.

On going down under, did Obama’s mind get turned upside down?

Mr. Obama, in Europe the people are demonstrating on the streets because of the stringent austerity measures their governments have taken, in order to try and turn around the economic situation. In the United States people are demonstrating on the streets because nothing is being done about the economic situation, it is business as usual.

United States

In the US the government made a decision, not to cut the deficit but to slow down its increase. This was dependent though on a special committee making decisions on how to cut 1.5 trillion dollars from the budget. With less than one week left, this committee is reportedly no where near reaching decisions on where these cuts should be found.

If this is correct then, effectively, the US has not even succeeded in faltering the speed of the ever increasing deficit, yet they blame Europe for delaying the recovery of the world economy.

Effectively, the United States is waiting for Europe to climb out of the recession whilst carrying a hefty US on their backs.

I guess that the US is hoping that when Europe finally succeeds, they will be weak from their struggle allowing the US to then step on them to put itself back at the top of the economic ladder.

This I suppose could be seen as a good plan for the United States to eventually reach back to the top.

The US politicians would not have had to make any hard decisions and the American people would not have to face the hardships the Europeans have to face.

Nice plan but the US deficit would have continued to climb but then again, what the hell, after all the deficit is only in US dollars and that is their money.

Mr. Obama, has it not occurred to you and the faceless elite that if the US were to fight the economic crisis alongside Europe then the world economy would recover faster. OK, I admit then though you may not so easily be able to step on Europe to reach the top.

The problem here though is that if you wait for Europe to fight the US’s battles for them, stepping on Europe will not assist you in getting to the top, China by that time will have been well trenched in, in that position.

Mr. Obama, just because you are down under do not allow the facts to be turned upside down.

When you get home convince your fellow politicians, that if they really want the US to be at the top, they will have to make some hard decisions and unfortunately the American people will have to share some of hardships that Europeans are facing.
