   Do You Really Think Of The Tea Party As A Real Third Party?
   
   I don't think of the tea party as a true third party. It's just the more radical part of the Republican Party. People like Sara Palin are dumber than dirt and don't impress me. Remember her statement that you can see Russia from Alaska.
   
   I think we need to get rid of all the parties and go with a political party that would be for America first before anything else. Neither the Democrats , Republicans or Tea Party really cares about America.
   
   Americans need to wake up before it is too late.

   I don't see the Tea Party ever being a party unto itself.... but I DO see it as evidence of serious fragmentation within the existing Republican Party....
   
   With that deep divide, I am concerned that Republicans will find it difficult to win votes this November.....

   What's called "the TEA Party" (that stands for Taxed Enough Already) is the only genuine grass roots movement seen in the US in a long time. When it arose spontaneously out of public revulsion over what the Democrats in Washington were doing in 2009 and 2010, it scared the living daylights out of the establishmentarians of both major parties. The one thing none of them can survive is real democracy, which is what the TEA people represented. From Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to Trent Lott, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, they set out to channel, coopt and destroy it. By and large, they have done so. The Democrats demonized it, the Republicans drew it in and marginalized it, and both leap to pummel it down into a bloody pulp whenever it threatens to rise off the floor. The movement still has some influence but essentially it has been merged into the status quo and neutered.
   
   The TEA Party's fatal flaw was its members' blind faith that the US national establishment can still be reformed and the nation's health restored. It can't. The corruption, authoritarianism and raw, unlimited power of the United States government passed the point of no return long ago. No reform movement now can get enough traction or survive long enough to succeed. The TEA Party has wasted a lot of time and effort trying. It needs to wake up and realize that.

   I wrote my thesis on the Tea Party movement.
   
   First of all, Sarah Palin is not a part of the Tea Party.  The Tea Party does not align themselves with either the Democrats OR the Republicans.   They are equally pissed off at everybody.  Palin tried to ride their coattails and they told her off for it. 
   
   The Tea Party is not a political party.  When polled, they do not think that there should be a third party, nor do they consider themselves one or want to create them.  They are an interest group, a political movement, a series of think tanks. 
   
   Attikos is correct: they are a true grassroots movement (which makes generalizations about them difficult).  Ackman is also correct: they are a fragmentation of the Republican party (this does not mean they ARE Republican: they are [mostly] FORMER Republicans).  They self-identify as the alienated Republican Party base.  They want to influence the existing parties.
   
   Additionally, Sarah Palin never said that you can see Russia from Alaska.  Tina Fey said that on SNL.  Sarah Palin stated, accurately, that Russia has invaded Alaska's airspace from time to time.  You also can see Russia from an Alaskan island. 
   
   Perhaps you should fact-check before calling others dumb.
