Depends what kind of freedom you are talking about ... there is no financial freedom for most people ... that is the chain holding us down: "debt". I recommend "Zeitgeist Addendum Part Three: Men Behind the Curtain" to understand our situation better. "Googling" it works.
Zeitgeist is big on this topic. But in my oppinion we are pretty much as free as any human can be, in comparison to third world and other underprivledged countries. Yes we have to work, but what else would we do with our time? That's why having a job you love is really important, so you don't feel like a slave but are doing something you enjoy on a daily basis. That in mind we are free to change jobs and own houses and possesions as long as whatever we do doesn't interfere with other peoples freedom.
We are more unfettered than most in the world; less than some.
