What can you say about Pres. Obama's foreign policy?
Is it apologetic, too weak, indecisive or you are approving it? Explain your answer. Explain your answer.
Making unilateral decisions, making decisions based only on a nation's own interests, not considering the interests of other nations, putting boots of soldiers on foreign soil, and blowing up innocent civilians of other nations...
We do ALL of these things and these are all things that people almost universally do not like. Never have and never will. I wish we would stop pretending like this is either a mystery or rocket science. It isn't, it is plain and simple.
World opinion of us changes based on the degree we do that list of things. Opinion of Obama is down since he took office but still higher than it was under Bush. People expected Obama would move away from unilateral decision-making (he has a little bit) and use words more than bombs. opinion of him has dropped because he hasn't come through on either of these things. And of course he has probably expanded the number of countries with our troops on their soil.
The only bright spot, in my opinion, was the effective assistance we supplied to Japan after their earthquake/tsunami. Incidentally, Japanese attitudes towards America have gone in a strong positive direction. Who would have thought that people like assistance more than they like watching their neighbors get blown to smithereens. How strange.
Like any other Presidency's from out past, it has some weaknesses, some strengths, some people love it some people hate it, everybody will never be happy at the same time. I wish President's would take a 101 History Of our Foreign Policy as a mandatory, to learn what we can from our mistakes, to learn what we can about what worked well, to learn what we can to try adjust to the times that are changing, to learn that no matter how much we learn, there is no easy straight path, so stop looking for a magic crystal ball to find the answers. At what point will people understand that if we as a nation, within our country if we are not strong, financially secure, educating our children, helping are the hungry that go to bed each night in our own back yard, no matter what we do and partake in our "foreign policy" will not make a difference and will not help any other country if we collapse. I am not saying ignore the hunger, medical needs of others - but don't ignore our own neighbors either.
His foreign policy is incredibly weak. He has in every possible instance shown a lack of respect towards our allies and capitulated to enemies. He allowed the removal of the missile defense system from poland designed to protect our allies without obtaining any concessions from the Russians.
He stood in support of Mubarek's removal. Mubarek was clearly a dictator, but at least a stabilizing force who was cooperative with the US and Israel. Yet a blind man could see the power vacuum would be filled by the Muslim Brotherhood, a far worse solution. The same could be said in Libya.
When the college students marched in Iran for freedom with signs pleading for American support, he remained totally silent while they were gunned down in the streets. Yet when President Zelaya in Honduras refused to relinquish power and attempted to circumvent the other branches of Gov't, he was ordered to be arrested and removed from the country by their supreme court. Obama spoke out on behalf of Zelaya.
Our strongest allies in the middle east region have been for decades the Israeli gov't. Yet Obama will barely give their prime minister the time of day while they are surrounded by nations whose stated goal is their total destruction.
In 4 years he has yet to negotiate one new trade agreement with the Chinese, while they in return routinely violate intellectual property rights.
The situation in the middle east is one that has never been an easy problem to solve. There are frankly no good solutions. As a result of our unwillingness to utilize the full scope of our own energy resources, we are for decades beholdent to the radical govt's of that region. Yet the only strategy that has ever worked has been that of containment. This has historically only worked through projecting stength in that region, not weakness. Obama has turned into the US version of Neville Chamberlain.
For those of us who are old enough to remember the Carter Administration, this is amazingly similar to that time period. Men like Mubarek simpy replace the Shah of Iran. There are countless other examples, these are just a few. The lack of a coherent Middle East policy now likely means that a confrontation between Israel and Iran is probably inevitable. Which means the US will get dragged into an even larger scale conflict or watch one of our longest running allies annihilated
It is just a continuation of the foreign policy of past presidents. He kept all the same wars, but added a few more.
We have US troops in 130 countries around the world. We use force against countries most Americans can't point out on a map.
Our foreign policy doesn't promote peace, trade, or friendship. It is used to maintain control over the worlds resources, monetary system, and people.
It's nothing special. We are still intervening all over the world getting people killed and using Draconian regulations to execute suspected terrorists...much of the same.

A recent article by Jack Kelly published at www.realclearpolitics.com notes the following:"Because he so often has “led from behind,” blustered and retreated, our enemies don’t fear our president; our allies don’t trust him; neither do they respect him. American influence has shrunk along with...

Be it not for me to speak ill of a fellow Democrat, but Hillary Clinton disappoints.
