Already Monday events have been cancelled.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus made the following statement: Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th.
Even without the danger element (which of course is real), this seems like an event planner's worst nightmare!
Everyone (thousands and thousands of people) shows up in Tampa as scheduled.
They convene Monday.
Then they immediately recess.
What will all those people do instead of convene?
Will they leave Tampa and come back when it's safe?
Where will they go?
How will they get there?
Will they hang out at their hotels?
Will they help board up store windows and lay sandbags?
Here's what happens procedurally to the nomination (for those interested):

LOL, glad to help start your morning off with a little merriment.
Depending on the storm's effects, I'm sure many of the downtown establishments will be full, a party type atmosphere. There are many special places set up for them to hang out. Many of the delegates are staying on the Gulf beaches. The beach bars will be full. Hurricane parties are popular. As long as evacuations aren't mandatory, these kind of storms can be an interesting experience for those who have never experienced sudden squalls and tropical conditions.
The strip clubs will have a big opening night!
I wonder if anyone will see it as the hand of God trying to tell them something important?
I was just over on the Gulf. The sunset was amazing.
Isaac moving westward means more revenue dollars for Tampa Bay. Party time tonight, schools and government offices are closed tomorrow.
Tampa has a great billboard greeting RNC attendees into the city.
